Magnetic resonance arthrography is superior to other imaging techniques in evaluation of the glenohumeral joint. Normal variants that can be diagnostic pitfalls include the anterosuperior sublabral foramen, the Buford complex, and hyaline cartilage under the labrum. Anteroinferior dislocation is the most frequent cause of anterior glenohumeral instability and produces a constellation of lesions (anteroinferior labral tear, classic and osseous Bankart lesions, Hill-Sachs lesion). Variants of anteroinferior labral tears include anterior labroligamentous periosteal sleeve avulsion and glenoid lab

This 3-year prospective cohort observational analysis of elite amateur hockey players ranging in age from 17 to 20 years on a United States Hockey League team describes ice hockey injuries using a strict definition of injury, standardized reporting strategies, and diagnosis by a team physician. One hundred forty-two injuries were recorded for an on-ice injury rate of 9.4 per 1000 player hours. A player was 25 times more likely to be injured in a game (96.1 per 1000 player-game hours) than in practice (3.9 per 1000 player-practice hours). Game-related injuries were more frequent in the third pe

In brief: This report documents women's field hockey injuries at the California State University in Long Beach from 1976 to 1979. Of the 81 reported injuries, 56 were seen by a physician, but most were minor. Ankle sprains were the most common. Sixteen percent of the injuries were major. The most serious injuries were a glenohumeral subluxation of the shoulder, a cerebral concussion, a second-degree cheek contusion, and four knee injuries. The authors concluded that injuries decreased with improved team performance and that proper equipment, training, and medical coverage can limit injuries.

OBJECTIVE: To identify the priority injuries and illnesses across UK summer Paralympic World Class Programmes (WCP).
METHODS: Four years (2016-2019) of electronic medical records from 360 athletes across 17 Paralympic WCP sports were analysed. Methods were based on the 2021 International Paralympic Committee translation of the original 2020 International Olympic Committee consensus statement for epidemiological recording and reporting. This included reporting incidence (count of injury per athlete year) and burden (time loss days per athlete year) of injuries by impairment category.
RESULTS:

There are 26 large climbing centres and 44 smaller indoor or outdoor climbing walls in The Netherlands at this time. Hand and finger injuries are the most common types of sport climbing injuries. Most injuries are caused by overstraining. Injuries include avulsion fractures, arthrosis, pulley rupture, damage to joint capsule and collateral ligaments, 'gamekeeper's thumb', 'climber's finger', lumbrical shift syndrome, 'climber's elbow', shoulder injuries and nerve compression syndromes. Treatment is usually conservative. Depending on the extent of damage surgical intervention may be indicated.

With long-established traditions in both sports medicine and trauma in Sweden, investigations are in progress on prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, with special emphasis on soft-tissue injuries. The following subjects are of current interest: injuries to the ankle ligaments, compartment syndromes, knee ligament and meniscus injuries, thigh and groin muscle injuries, shoulder dislocation, lateral epicondylitis, and rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament of the thumb. Skiing injuries and the prevention of trauma in soccer players represent important unsolved problems.

Shoulder dystocia is defined as a complication of vaginal delivery that requires additional obstetric manoeuvres to release the shoulders of the baby. Reported incidence of shoulder dystocia is around 0.6-1.4%. Serious perinatal morbidity is associated with this type of complication. Brachial plexus injuries are one of the most important fetal complications of shoulder dystocia. Some cases results in permanent brachial plexus dysfunction. A high level of awareness and training for all birth attendants is recommended. The purpose of this article is to review the current evidence regarding the p

CONTEXT: Addressing loss of shoulder range of motion and rotator cuff weakness in injury-prevention programs might be an effective strategy for preventing throwing arm injuries in baseball pitchers. However, the influence of these clinical measures on pitching biomechanics is unclear.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relationships among clinical measures of shoulder rotational motion and strength and 3-dimensional pitching biomechanics and to evaluate the presence of coupling between the shoulder and the elbow during pitching to provide insight into the influence of clinical shoulder characteristic

A high school-aged right-handed adolescent boy presented with a 5-mo history of persistent proximal right arm weakness and numbness after an American football stinger injury without a documented history of a shoulder dislocation or humeral fracture. He developed diffuse deltoid muscle atrophy, persistent shoulder abduction weakness, and reduced pinprick sensation confined to the axillary distribution over 5 mos. Needle electromyography demonstrated dense fibrillation potentials and no voluntary activation in all three deltoid muscle heads, indicating a severe posttraumatic ruptured axillary mo

Greater tuberosity (GT) fractures with rotator cuff injuries are challenging due to risks of nonunion and functional loss. We report a case treated with a distal radius locking plate combined with suture anchors. A female patient presented with shoulder pain and immobility 4 weeks after trauma, diagnosed with humeral head dislocation and rotator cuff tear. She underwent minimally invasive fixation using this combined technique, which provides stable fracture reduction while repairing the rotator cuff. At the 18-month follow-up, shoulder function was fully restored with no complications. This c

The authors report of their experience in the rehabilitation of active functions in the upper extremities of 22 children with sequelae of birth injuries of the shoulder plexi of the Erb type. In order to accelerate the reconstruction of the function of the transplanted trapezius muscle a method of adaptive bioregulations is suggested which permitted to quantify the doses of developed muscular tension and control the movements. The obtained results give ground to positively evaluate this method, based on the principle of external reverse connection in the rehabilitative period following an oper

The outcomes following nonoperative management of minimally displaced greater tuberosity (GT) fractures, and the factors which influence patient experience, remain poorly defined. We assessed the early patient-derived outcomes following these injuries and examined the effect of a range of demographic- and injury-related variables on these outcomes. In total, 101 patients (53 female, 48 male) with a mean age of 50.9 years (19 to 76) with minimally displaced GT fractures were recruited to a prospective observational cohort study. During the first year after injury, patients underwent experientia
