A 62-year-old woman with Meige's syndrome failed to respond to several pharmacologic interventions. Her dystonias improved significantly after treatment with bilateral electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). However, the effect was not durable, lasting < or = 72 h. ECT is an effective treatment for many movement disorders including dystonias of differing etiologies. Its efficacy for Meige's syndrome is questionable.

This study explored the differences between bulimia nervosa ("BN," n=22) and binge-eating disorder ("BED," n=11) in type 1 diabetic females and the factors most predictive of poor glycemic control in patients suffering from these disorders. These two groups and a control group without eating disorders (n=32) were compared across a number of demographic, psychological, and medical variables. BN manifested significantly more severe disturbances related to eating disorders, depression, anxiety, a higher rate of co-occurring mental disorders, and poorer psychosocial functioning compared with BED.

The hypothesis that adults with Tourette Syndrome (TS) have a lower level of self-concept and a higher level of public self-consciousness and social anxiety than the general population was examined. One hundred and twenty-one hearing impaired people and their accompanying adult significant other answered an open-ended questionnaire. It asked them to list the difficulties they had as a result of hearing loss. We examined the relationship between unawareness of cognitive deficits and psychiatric and neuropsychological manifestations in 181 patients with probable Alzheimer's disease (AD). To find out whether long-term physical disorders in childhood increase the risk for mental disorder, we interviewed 407 young adults and compared their findings to a control group of 123 age-matched controls. The overall prevalence of mental disorders according to ICD-8 classification exceeded 20% in both groups. This paper tries to associate psychosomatic manifestations of the locomotion-system to one of the following four diagnosis: 1) conversion disorder, 2) anxiety disorder, 3) depressive mood disorder, 4) somatization disorder. For each of these diagnosis definition, clinical manifestation, diagnostic and differential-diagnostic criteria are mentioned. In this study was compared the mental health status of 47 multiple sclerosis patients with silver/mercury tooth fillings (amalgams) to that of 50 patients with their fillings removed.
