The authors report two cases of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors arising from the vagus nerve in the mediastinum in patients who had no stigmata of neurofibromatosis (von Recklinghausen's disease). Computed tomography showed homogeneous soft tissue masses, with minimal calcification seen in one patient. T2-weighted magnetic resonance images showed regions of low signal intensity caused by a dense cellular population.

Tibial plateau fractures (TPFs) are complex intra-articular injuries frequently accompanied by significant soft tissue injury. Existing medical literature has shown that TPFs resulting from a flexion-varus injury mechanism, affecting the posteromedial column primarily, are associated with worse clinical outcome scores and a higher risk of conversion to total knee arthroplasty. This narrative review aims to explain why this specific subgroup has a poorer prognosis compared with other TPFs subtypes. Four key factors are examined in this review: fracture morphology, biomechanics, soft tissue invo

OBJECTIVE: Hydatid cyst disease is a helminthic infection caused by Echinococcus granulous, which is encountered with cysts in many organs, especially the liver and lungs. Soft tissue and intramuscular hydatid cyst are rare even in endemic countries. It is challengig to distinguish subcutaneous and intramuscular hydatid cysts from soft tissue tumors. This study aimed to present the clinical features of primary soft tissue hydatid cyst cases without liver and lung hydatid cyst in the Southeast Anatolian region, where hydatid cyst disease is endemic.
METHODS: Patients admitted to the Şanlıurfa

INTRODUCTION: Subtalar dislocations are a rare injury, comprising 1-2% of all large joint dislocations and 15% of all peri-talar injuries. Most subtalar dislocations are managed acutely, with the documented reconstruction of chronic dislocations rare. This case report aims to present our experience with the first documented use of an Ilizarov frame for bony and soft tissue reconstruction in a case of chronic subtalar dislocation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A single patient surgically treated for chronic subtalar dislocation was followed over a 2-year period, and retrospectively reviewed.

Computed tomography (CT) is used to document upper airway lesions in dogs with brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome. The presence of an endotracheal tube during CT scanning is often required for general anesthesia. We hypothesized that the endotracheal tube placement would change the soft tissue dimensions of the upper airway. The aims of this prospective, method comparison study were to evaluate the reliability of the previously reported upper airway CT measurements with endotracheal tube placement, and to propose measurements that are minimally affected by the endotracheal tube. Twenty

Prediction of postoperative facial appearance after orthognathic surgery can be used for communication, managing patients' expectations, avoiding postoperative dissatisfaction and exploring different treatment options. We have assessed the accuracy of 3dMD Vultus in predicting the final 3-dimensional soft tissue facial morphology after Le Fort I advancement osteotomy. We retrospectively studied 13 patients who were treated with a Le Fort I advancement osteotomy alone. We used routine cone-beam computed tomographic (CT) images taken immediately before and a minimum of 6 months after operation, a

Palpation is a traditional diagnostic procedure for health care professionals to use their fingers to touch and feel the body soft tissues. It is a common clinical approach, though it is rather subjective and qualitative and the palpation results may vary among different people. Tissue ultrasound palpation sensor (TUPS) provides a feasible solution that makes the palpation of soft tissues not subjective feeling any more. It is comprised of an ultrasound transducer together with a load cell to form the finger-sized probe. The probe is used to push against the soft tissue surface to measure the

Vertebral hydatid disease is a rare manifestation of cystic echinococcosis, accounting for less than 1% of all cases, while primary isolated vertebral involvement is exceptionally uncommon. We report the case of a 33-year-old woman presenting with progressive spastic paraplegia. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a multilobulated left thoracic costovertebral lesion centered at the T6-T7 level, composed of multicystic and enhancing solid components. The lesion involved the T6 and T7 vertebral bodies and posterior elements, with extensive intraspinal, pleural, and paravertebral soft-tissue exte

This position paper delves into the transformative role of geometric algebra (GA) in advancing specific areas of computer graphics (CG) and extended reality (XR), particularly in character animation, rendering, rigging, neural rendering and generative artificial intelligence (AI)-driven scene editing. Common CG algorithms require handling rotations, translations and dilations (uniform scalings) in operations such as object rendering, rigged model animation, soft-body deformation and XR simulations. Traditional representation forms-such as matrices, quaternions and vectors-often introduce limit

The aim of this study was to check the relevance of using in-vivo micro computed tomography (µCT) for the diagnosis of possible diseases of the middle and inner ear of the cat. Therefore, on the one hand, differences of the detail detectability between the two imaging methods conventional computed tomography (cCT) and in-vivo µCT were analyzed. Six healthy cat ears were dissected and scanned several times and the obtained images were compared with each other. On the other hand, histological slices of all ears were prepared and pictures of defined anatomical structures were taken and compared

Adult acquired flatfoot deformity (AAFD) is a degenerative disease resulting in malalignment of the mid- and hindfoot secondary to posterior tibial tendon dysfunction and increasing implication of ligament pathologies. Despite the complex 3D nature of AAFD, 2D radiographs are still employed to diagnose and stage the disease. Computer modeling techniques allow for accurate 3D recreations of musculoskeletal systems for the investigation of biomechanical factors contributing to disease. Following Institutional Review Board approval, the lower limbs of six diagnosed AAFD sufferers were imaged with

Although its pathogenesis remains obscure, Parry-Romberg syndrome (PRS) has been associated with the linear scleroderma en coup de sabre. PRS is characterized by unilateral facial atrophy of the skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscles, and bones with at least 1 dermatome supplied by the trigeminal nerve. Facial asymmetry represents the most common sequela and can involve the soft tissues, craniomaxillofacial skeleton, dentoalveolar area, and temporomandibular joint. Although orthognathic procedures have been reported for skeletal reconstruction, treatment of facial asymmetry has been directed to au

Traditional film-screen radiography (FSR) has been useful in the recognition and evaluation of interstitial lung diseases, but is becoming increasingly obsolete. To evaluate the applicability of storage phosphor digital computed radiography (CR) images in the recognition of small lung opacities, we compared image quality and the profusion of small opacities between FSR and CR radiographs. We screened 1,388 working coal miners during the course of the study with FSR and CR images obtained on the same day from all participants. Each traditional chest film was independently interpreted by two of

Four cases of girls with metastases of soft tissue or bone sarcomas to the reproductive system or breasts are reported. Two patients had metastases to the breast from rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) of the limbs, one had metastases to the ovary from RMS of the foot, and one had metastases to the uterine venous plexus from chondrosarcoma of the sacrum. In each case, the appearance of metastases was shown in various imaging methods: ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, and computed tomography. A thorough literature review confirmed that only a few cases of soft tissue and bone sarcoma metastasis to th
