The author presents the results of surgical treatment of congenital shortening of the IV metatarsal in 3 girls. In 2 cases the defect was bilateral. A total of 5 feet were operated on the age of the patients at time of operation ranged from 10 years and 1 months to 16 years and 11 months. A one-stage procedure with the use of a Pumed mini-distraction device was performed. The fissure between the bone fragments was augmented with a bone graft from the fibula. It was harvested in such a way as to maintain internal cortical integrity. K-wire fixation of the bony fragments was applied for 7 weeks.

The authors have studied 266 patients with multiple and associated injuries, 31 of whom were performed a one-stage osteosynthesis in fractures of the bones of the femur (36), the crus (23), the humerus (5) and the forearm (3). Before 1985 the main method of surgical treatment was open intramedullary osteosynthesis with Küntscher-type nails with drilling out of the medullary canal. We report a case of a 13-year old girl with pectus excavatum who had a Nuss procedure and two years later a new cardiac murmur appeared which on investigation was diagnosed as supravalvular pulmonary artery stenosis. Following removal of the Nuss bar the stenosis resolved.

Knee arthrodesis with curved intramedullary rods was performed in 12 patients after infected total knee arthroplasty. The underlying pathologic condition was osteoarthritis in nine patients and rheumatoid arthritis in three patients.
