The Leopard syndrome is a complex of multisystemic congenital abnormalities characterised by lentiginosis, electrocardiographic conduction abnormalities, ocular hypertelorism, pulmonary stenosis, abnormalities of genitalia, retardation of growth and deafness (sensorineural). Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, though not included in the mnemonic, is often associated. Although the Leopard syndrome is rare, it is important to recognise it since it can be associated with serious cardiac disease. It is advisable to follow up patients with Leopard syndrome for new onset of cardiac abnormalities and to mon…

Sjogren's syndrome (SS) is a systemic autoimmune exocrinopathy that affects the salivary and lacrimal glands. It typically presents as the "sicca complex" of dry eyes (xerophthalmia) and dry mouth (xerostomia) along with other symptoms such as arthritis. SS is classified as either primary or secondary. In the primary form, dry eyes and dry mouth occur alone. In the secondary form, the dry eyes and dry mouth occur in the context of another rheumatic disease, most commonly rheumatoid arthritis. There is an increasing list of systemic manifestations affecting the lung, kidney, and nervous system …

Waardenburg syndrome (WS) is caused by autosomal dominant mutations, and is characterized by pigmentary anomalies and various defects of neural crest derived tissues. We report a very interesting case of type 1 WS (WS 1) in an adult who presented all the symptoms characteristic of this syndrome. One particularly important clinical feature of WS is congenital hearing loss, which may severely handicap a child. A careful clinical description is useful to differentiate between various types of WS and other associated auditory-pigmentary syndromes. Type WS 1, characterized by dystopia canthorum, is…

INTRODUCTION: Graves' disease (GD) and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) represent distinct autoimmune disorders affecting the thyroid and liver, respectively.
CASE PRESENTATION: This report discusses a case of a 13-year-old boy with rare coexistence of GD and AIH. The patient was admitted to the Department of Pediatric Endocrinology, presenting with suspected hyperthyroidism. Clinical manifestations included ocular exophthalmos, tachycardia, reduced exercise tolerance, and motor restlessness. Initial laboratory assessments revealed mildly elevated transaminases, prompting further investigation. A p

Sjogren's syndrome is a chronic progressive autoimmune disorder manifested predominately by xerostomia (dry mouth) and keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eyes). It can also affect many body systems. Up to 5% of people over the age of 60 years have primary Sjogren's syndrome, and approximately one third of patients present with extraglandular (systemic) manifestations. This disease is seen mostly in middle-aged women, with a small but significant proportion of these women developing lymphoid neoplasia. The exact etiology is still unknown. This autoimmune disorder is characterized by B-cell activat…

BACKGROUND: The association of renal failure with terminal liver insufficiency is referred to as hepatorenal syndrome (HRS). It is characterized by impaired renal function together with abnormalities in arterial circulation and activity of endogenous vasoactive system. In the pathogenesis of HRS, vasodilatation in the splanchnic circulation plays a major role. This leads to underfilling in arterial circulation in this area with subsequent vasoconstriction in renal arteries leading to lower renal circulation and functional renal failure. One of the most difficult tasks in clinical evaluation of…
