The Potential for Anti-Stigma Interventions to Change Public Attitudes Toward Minor-Attracted Persons: A Replication and Extension of Jara and Jeglic's Study.

From a public health perspective, ensuring access to, and uptake of, support services for people concerned about their sexual thoughts and behavior is essential to the prevention of child sexual abuse. However, public and fiscal support for these services can be adversely affected by negative preconceptions regarding minor-attracted persons (MAPs); negative stigma may also limit MAPs' engagement with such services. Using a randomized-control design, the present study replicated and extended a recent US study to test effects of different modes of educational messaging to reduce negative attitud

Revisiting the evolution of the Hippocratic Oath in obstetrics and gynecology.

Hippocrates, an influential figure in ancient Greek medicine, is best known for his lasting contribution, the Hippocratic Oath, which includes a significant message about obstetrics and gynecology. Given the Oath's status as a widely regarded ethical code for medical practice, it requires critical evaluation. The message of the Oath, as it related to obstetrics and gynecology, is expressed in ancient Greek by the phrase "οὐδὲ γυναικὶ πεσσὸν φθόριον δώσω" which translates directly to "I will not give to any woman a harming pessary." The words fetus and abortion were not present in the original

Electronically delivered, cardiovascular-focused messaging to improve influenza vaccination: Rationale, design, and baseline characteristics of the Kaiser Permanente VACCination Improvement with Nudge-based CardiovAscular Targeted Engagement (KP-VACCINATE) Megatrial.

BACKGROUND: Despite strong evidence of clinical benefit, influenza vaccination rates remain suboptimal in the United States. Randomized trials suggest that behavioral nudges may improve vaccination rates, particularly when messaging includes language on the potential cardiovascular (CV) benefits of vaccination. Whether these nudges are effective in a diverse US population is unknown. PURPOSE: The Kaiser Permanente VACCination Improvement with Nudge-based CardiovAscular Targeted Engagement (KP-VACCINATE) study tested the effectiveness and timing of electronically-delivered health system messag

Barriers and Facilitators to PrEP Adherence among Transgender and Non-binary Individuals: A Mixed-Methods Analysis of Psychosocial Factors and Health Belief Model Constructs.

Despite known benefits of Motivational Interviewing (MI) for medication adherence, its effectiveness in supporting pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) adherence among transgender and nonbinary (TGNB) populations remains underexplored. This study applies mixed-methods analysis to understand PrEP adherence among TGNB individuals who received a daily individualized text-message intervention and phone-based MI for non-adherence to PrEP. Individuals who did not respond to three consecutive messages were identified as potential MI recipients. We had three objectives: (1) examine psychosocial differences

A Quality Improvement Initiative to Optimize Follow-Up in the New England Area for Pediatric Patients With Cardiovascular Implantable Electronic Devices.

BACKGROUND: The use of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) continues to grow. Despite the presence of implanted hardware, patient compliance with in-clinic visits and remote transmissions is poor. We performed a quality improvement (QI) initiative to assess and optimize CIED follow-up in the New England area. METHODS: A regional network of eight pediatric institutions was created. All patients with CIEDs were identified starting in 2016. Noncompliance was defined as: no in-person evaluation within 1 year, or no remote transmission within 6 months. Interventions performed included a

Sexting, Risk Behavior, and Mental Health in Adolescents: An Examination of 2015 Pennsylvania Youth Risk Behavior Survey Data.

BACKGROUND: Sexting, the sharing of sexually suggestive photos, may be a gateway behavior to early sexual activity and increase the likelihood of social ostracism. METHODS: Youth Risk Behavior Survey (N = 6021) data from 2015 among Pennsylvania 9th-12th grade students were used to examine associations between consensual and nonconsensual sexting and substance use, mental health, neighborhood safety, and demographic variables. RESULTS: Almost one-third (29%) of students reported consensual sexting, while 3% reported nonconsensual sexting. Female students were 49% less likely to report consens

Internet-accessed sexually transmitted infection (e-STI) testing and results service: A randomised, single-blind, controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Internet-accessed sexually transmitted infection testing (e-STI testing) is increasingly available as an alternative to testing in clinics. Typically this testing modality enables users to order a test kit from a virtual service (via a website or app), collect their own samples, return test samples to a laboratory, and be notified of their results by short message service (SMS) or telephone. e-STI testing is assumed to increase access to testing in comparison with face-to-face services, but the evidence is unclear. We conducted a randomised controlled trial to assess the effectiven

The bidirectional relationships between online victimization and psychosocial problems in adolescents: a comparison with real-life victimization.

Although peer victimization is of major concern and adolescents spend increasing amounts of time on the Internet, relatively little is known about the psychosocial antecedents and consequences of online victimization. The main aim of this study was to compare the psychosocial antecedents and consequences of online versus real-life victimization. More specifically, the bidirectional relationship between online and real-life victimization on the one hand and psychosocial problems (i.e., loneliness and social anxiety) on the other was examined. In addition, the moderating role of online aggressio

A multi-faceted approach to characterizing user behavior and experience in a digital mental health intervention.

Digital interventions offer great promise for supporting health-related behavior change. However, there is much that we have yet to learn about how people respond to them. In this study, we present a novel mixed-methods approach to analysis of the complex and rich data that digital interventions collect. We perform secondary analysis of IntelliCare, an intervention in which participants are able to try 14 different mental health apps over the course of eight weeks. The goal of our analysis is to characterize users' app use behavior and experiences, and is rooted in theoretical conceptualizatio

Linguistic processing in visual and modality-nonspecific brain areas: PET recordings during selective attention.

Positron emission tomography (PET) was used to investigate the neural basis of selective processing of linguistic material during concurrent presentation of multiple stimulus streams ("cocktail-party effect"). Fifteen healthy right-handed adult males were to attend to one of three simultaneously presented messages: one presented visually, one to the left ear, and one to the right ear. During the control condition, subjects attended to visually presented consonant letter strings and ignored auditory messages. This paper reports the modality-nonspecific language processing and visual word-form p
