Case Report: Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in Morning Glory Disc Anomaly.

SIGNIFICANCE: Morning glory disc anomaly is a congenital abnormality of the optic disc. Optical coherence tomography angiography shows vascular rarefaction of the superficial and deep capillary plexuses and increased vascularity of the radial peripapillary capillary plexus. We hypothesize that this congestion represents a compensatory mechanism to an abnormal vasculogenesis. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to describe the optic disc vascular alterations occurring at choriocapillaris and retinal vascular plexuses in a patient affected by bilateral morning glory disc anomaly with optical coh

The Contribution of Optical Coherence Tomography in Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders.

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) comprises a group of central nervous system disorders of inflammatory autoimmune origin that mainly affect the optic nerves and the spinal cord and can cause severe visual and general disability. The clinical signs are similar to those of multiple sclerosis (MS), with the result that it is often difficult to differentiate between the two, thus leading to misdiagnosis. As the treatment and prognosis of NMOSD and MS are different, it is important to make an accurate and early diagnosis of NMOSD. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive

Optical coherence tomography angiography: Technical principles and clinical applications in ophthalmology.

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is a functional extension of OCT that provides information on retinal and choroidal circulations without the need for dye injections. With the recent development of high-speed OCT systems and efficient algorithms, OCTA has become clinically feasible. In this review article, we discuss the technical principles of OCTA, including image processing and artifacts, and its clinical applications in ophthalmology. We summarize recent studies which qualitatively or quantitatively assess disease presentation, progression, and/or response to treatment.

Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection: Insights From Histology and Optical Coherence Tomography.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a well-known but infrequent cause of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), and often goes unrecognized. Although management of SCAD is, at times, controversial, when a patient presents with ACS, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is frequently necessary. We present a patient with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) with SCAD that illustrates two important points: use of intracoronary optical coherence tomography to guide PCI, and histologic assessment to provide a unique insight into the etiology of SCAD. Following the case, we bri

Optical coherence tomography evaluation of pulmonary arterial vasculopathy in Systemic Sclerosis.

Our current understanding of the pathophysiology of pulmonary vascular disease is incomplete, since information about alterations of the pulmonary vasculature in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is primarily provided by autopsy or tissue specimens. The aim of this study was to compare the distal pulmonary vasculature of <2 mm in diameter in Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) patients with (n = 17) and without (n = 5) associated PAH using Optical Coherence Tomography during Right Heart catheterization. SSc-PAH patients showed significant thickening of Intima Media Thickening Area compared to patient

Clinical applications of spectral domain optical coherence tomography in retinal diseases.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) was introduced about two decades ago and has revolutionized ophthalmic practice in recent years. It is a noninvasive noncontact imaging modality that provides a high-resolution cross-sectional image of the cornea, retina, choroid and optic nerve head, analogous to that of the histological section. Advances in OCT technology in signal detection technique from time-domain (TD) to spectral-domain (SD) detection have given us the potential to study various retinal layers more precisely and in less time. SD-OCT better delineates structural changes and fine lesions
