Incidence of Vaginal Intraepithelial Neoplasia After Hysterectomy for Cervical Cancer or Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the incidence of vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN) 1+ in patients after hysterectomy for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) or cervical cancer. DATA SOURCES: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from inception to January 2025. METHODS OF STUDY SELECTION: We identified 7,234 studies, 48 of which were included in the meta-analysis. The primary outcome was the incidence of pathologically confirmed VAIN 1+ (VAIN 1, 2, or 3 or vaginal cancer) in patients after hysterectomy for CIN or cerv

Characteristics of high-risk HPV infection in women with vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia in Beijing, China.

We evaluated the characteristics of high-risk human papillomavirus (Hr-HPV) infection in different grades of vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VaIN). 7469 participants were involved in this study, of which 601 were diagnosed with VaIN, including single vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (s-VaIN, n = 369) and VaIN+CIN (n = 232), 3414 with single cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (s-CIN), 3446 with cervicitis or vaginitis and 8 with vaginal cancer. We got those results. First, the most popular HPV genotypes in VaIN were HPV16, 52, 58, 51, and 56. Second, our study showed that higher parity and

Diagnosis of Primary Clear Cell Carcinoma of the Vagina by 18F-FDG PET/CT.

A 41-year-old woman presented with irregular vaginal bleeding, and a vaginal tumor was found and proved to be a clear cell carcinoma by biopsy. An F-FDG PET/CT was performed to exclude its metastatic possibility, which showed the vaginal tumor was the only lesion with F-FDG avidity. The vaginectomy and hysterectomy were performed to resect the lesion, and primary clear cell carcinoma of the vagina was finally diagnosed.

Vaginal metastasis of renal clear-cell cancer.

BACKGROUND: Vaginal metastases originating from renal cancer remain a rare event, with less than 100 cases reported in the literature. The spreading mechanism is still under scrutiny. The tumoral bleeding often is a symptom revealing vaginal metastases. CASE: The present work reports patient case having vaginal metastasis of renal clear-cell cancer. The vaginal metastasis was treated by a 3-D conformational radiotherapy. Our experience is discussed with respect to an updated literature review concerning the medical management of vaginal metastasis related to kidney cancer. CONCLUSION: In our

Fibroepithelial polyps of the vagina in bitches: a histological and immunohistochemical study.

The histological and immunohistochemical features of 13 cases of suspected vaginal fibroepithelial polyps are reported. The characteristic microscopical features of these lesions were an abundant oedematous or fibrous stroma containing spindle-shaped and stellate cells and the presence of variable inflammation and haemorrhage. There was often a superficial layer of compressed tissue, but the stroma in the peripheral areas of the masses was generally more loosely arranged than in central areas. The connective tissue cells expressed vimentin and desmin, but did not express smooth muscle actin or

Multifocal multicentric squamous cell carcinomas arising in vulvovaginal lichen planus.

OBJECTIVE: To describe a case of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) arising in vulvovaginal lichen planus (LP) and to highlight difficulties in occult cancer surveillance in the setting of severe vaginal stenosis. CASE: A 67-year-old woman with long-standing systemic and vulvovaginal LP presented with multifocal vulvar SCC. Four months after radical vulvectomy and bilateral groin node dissection for stage IB carcinomas, she presented with stage III vaginal SCC arising in an obliterated vagina. CONCLUSIONS: Multifocal, multicentric carcinomas may arise in the vulva and stenosed vagina in women wit

Ureteral injury during laparoscopically assisted radical vaginal hysterectomy.

We report on a case of ureteral injury during laparoscopically radical hysterectomy to treat a patient with a stage IA2 carcinoma of the uterine cervix. The advantage of laparoscopically radical hysterectomy is the prevention of the identification and dissecting of the ureter from a vaginal approach, the main problem in the Schauta technique. However, ureteral injury may still occur while resecting the cardinal ligament without good visualization of the ureter during a vaginal procedure. Because the ureter was well identified and freed laparoscopically, a vaginal approach after uterine removal

PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of Cicatridine application in healing and repairing process after operative procedures concerning uterine cervix, vagina and vulva and after brachytherapy due to cervical and endometrial cancer. We also analyzed Cicatridine effect on vaginal athrophical signs in post-menopausal women. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The examined group consist of 319 women. They were divided into 2 arms. The active arm concerns 213 women who used Cicatridine, while controlled one consists of 106 women. The effect of treatment was estimated after 6 weeks and 3 mo

Photodynamic therapy of vulvar and vaginal condyloma and intraepithelial neoplasia using topically applied 5-aminolevulinic acid.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: To determine the feasibility of photodynamic therapy (PDT) of vulvar and vaginal condyloma and intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN, VAIN) and to compare PDT results with conventional treatments. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-eight patients with vulvar or vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) grade II/III (n = 22) or condyloma (n = 16) had 10% 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA)-gel applied topically. After 2-4 hours, 80-125 J/cm(2) laser light at a wavelength of 635 nm was applied. PDT was compared to conventional treatments for condyloma (CO(2) laser evaporation)

Association of Trichomonas vaginalis and cytological abnormalities of the cervix in low risk women.

OBJECTIVE: Is Trichomonas vaginalis (TV) an inducing factor for the development of (pre-)cancerous lesions of the cervix? DESIGN: Cross sectional study. SETTING: Screening healthy Belgian women with low infection risk. SAMPLE: 63,251 consecutive liquid based cervical samples. METHODS: Real time quantitative PCR for presence of TV, 18 HPV types and Pap smear analysis of cytologic abnormalities. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Association of TV and HPV with cervix dysplasia. RESULTS: The overall prevalence of TV DNA was 0.37%, of low risk HPV 2%, of high risk HPV 13.2%, and 8.8 % had cytological ab

Phenotypic 'variant' forms of Trichomonas vaginalis trophozoites from cervical neoplasia patients.

The protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis a sexually transmitted protozoan parasite causes vaginitis, urethritis and cervicitis in humans. The present study highlights phenotypic 'variant' forms of trophozoites isolated from patients suffering from cervical neoplasia condition. The growth curve of 10 isolates i.e., four non-cervical neoplasia (NCN) isolates (NCN1-NCN4) and six cervical neoplasia (CN) isolates (CN1-CN6) showed two distinct and different in vitro growth profiles. The parasite count and growth rates were significantly higher in trophozoites from CN isolates in cultures of day 2 up to d
