BACKGROUND: Pregnancy represents a risk factor in the occurrence of vaginal candidiasis.
OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence and clinical features associated with abnormal vaginal discharge and C. albicans infection in pregnant women.
METHODS: High vaginal swab samples and data on epidemiological characteristics were collected from 400 pregnant women with complaints of abnormal vaginal discharge at booking clinic of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. The data was analysed using SPSS 16.0 statistical software.

Vaginal atrophy is a common chronic condition affecting up to 57% of postmenopausal women. A wide variety of Müllerian anomalies has been described in the literature. Various combinations of anomalies may coexist in a single subject. Precise identification of the various components of the anomaly is paramount in choosing and planning the appropriate conservative and surgical treatment. In this report, we present a rare case of combined vertical fusion and transverse canalization defects in a single subject. A review of the literature along with an overview of the pertinent embryologic processes and management concepts for such cases are presented.

This randomised prospective study in 53 women having vaginal hysterectomy for benign conditions compared a closed vault technique with an open technique. Twenty-seven had the vault closed (group A) whereas 26 patients had an open vault (group B). The primary outcomes include, vault haematoma (as detected by ultrasound on day 3) and fever. OBJECTIVE: We describe a new surgical technique (the vaginal plastron) for the treatment of cystocele by the vaginal route. The technique is based on bladder support by a vaginal strip (6-8cm in length and 4cm in width), isolated from the anterior colpocele, left attached to the bladder, associated with a suspension of this strip by its fixation to the tendinous arch of the pelvic fascia by six lateral sutures (three on each side of the plastron). BACKGROUND: Atrophic vaginitis is a common condition. This study compared the usefulness of estradiol vaginal tablets (EVT) and estriol vagitories (EV) in treatment of atrophic vaginitis.
METHODS: Ninety-six postmenopausal women with symptoms of atrophic vaginitis were treated for 24 weeks with either EVT or with EV. Patients used the medication daily for the first 2 weeks of the study, and twice-weekly thereafter.

This is a report of a successful pregnancy on a patient that had congenital vaginal aplasia with a functioning uterus. Continuity of the reproductive tract was restored at 12 years of age with transplantation of vaginal wall from the mother. The patient had no problems after initiating intercourse 7 years later and conceived without treatment after 5 years of primary infertility. She was delivered by cesarean section at term.

One hundred patients with vulvovaginal candidosis were entered in a double-blind trial to compare the effect of six days' local treatment with clotrimazole with that of the same treatment plus 10 days' oral treatment with nystatin. No significant differences were detected in the rate of cure or relapse between the treatment groups. The cure rate was lowest and the relapse rate highest in patients in whom vaginal candidosis had last been diagnosed during the preceding 12 months.
