AIMS: Our aim was to describe the electrocardiographic findings of a large sample of Spanish workers from several different employment sectors.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Between May 2008 and November 2010, 13 495 consecutive 12-lead resting electrocardiograms (ECGs) were obtained during health examinations of working adults aged 16-74 years in 5 cities in different regions of Spain. PURPOSE: To determine the diagnostic yield of the 24-hour Holter monitoring in the patients who were evaluated for palpitations.
METHODS: A prospective, single-centre study was performed to evaluate the diagnostic yield of the Holter monitoring. The inclusion criteria was age greater then 18 years with the symptom of unexplained recurrent palpitations. The exclusion criteria was patients with known medical causes of palpitation, a history of documented arrhythmias, or a history of or the current use of anti-arrhythmic drugs. The outcomes included a diagnostic Holter monitor recording.

Forty-seven echocardiograms were obtained in 32 patients with bacterial endocarditis. Preexistent abnormalities were found in 14 patients. In five of them thought to have bacterial endocarditis on normal valves, echocardiography showed mitral stenosis (one), bicuspid aortic valve (two), and prolapse of mitral valve (two). Definite vegetations were seen in 22 patients--on the aortic valve in seven, the mitral valve in 12, and both valves in three. OBJECTIVE: The gamma(2) subunit of AMP-activated protein kinase (PRKAG2) located in chromosome 7 plays an important role in regulating metabolic pathways, and patients with PRKAG2 mutations are associated with familial ventricular pre-excitation, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and AV block. To determine the safety and efficacy of intravenous adenosine as used in the emergency department (ED) for the treatment of presumed supraventricular tachycardia, the investigators performed a retrospective chart review in an urban, university-affiliated ED. One-hundred forty-two patients with atrioventricular block (AVB) and 61 patients with sick sinus syndrome (SSS) were followed for an average of 50 months after permanent pacemaker insertion.
