From 1976 to 1989, 21 adult patients with previously untreated acute promyelocytic leukemia were seen at the University of Virginia Hospital. We reviewed their cases retrospectively to determine the impact of hemorrhagic complications and other factors on treatment outcome. We observed a complete remission rate of 35%; the median survival in complete responders was 15 months. Evidence of disseminated intravascular coagulation was found in 13 (62%) of the 21 cases at diagnosis. The purpose of this study was to determine the number and volume of red blood cell (RBC) transfusions and the number of donors a newborn is exposed to during his or her newborn intensive care unit (NICU) stay. On one day at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and two days at the University of Virginia Hospital (UVH) all babies who had or were receiving RBCs comprised the study group. Gastric pseudolymphoma is a benign inflammatory condition that is usually associated with chronic gastric ulcer and often mimics gastric carcinoma or malignant lymphoma. Our experience with 12 histologically documented gastric pseudolymphomas at the Medical College of Virginia is presented with an emphasis on the approach to both diagnosis and surgical management. A standardized mortality analysis was conducted on workers exposed to tetrachlorodibenzodioxin in a trichlorophenol process accident at the Monsanto Company plant in Nitro, West Virginia. Four different Nicotiana flowers (Nicotiana alata (alata), Nicotiana sylvestris (Sy), Nicotiana suaveolens (Su), and Nicotiana tabacum cv. OBJECTIVE: Glutaraldehyde is a substance that represents a substantial portion of the human exposure to aldehydes in medicine and industry. Other aldehydes such as formaldehyde have been associated with increased cancer rates of the upper respiratory tract and leukemia.
