By utilizing a novel approach to microwave spectrometry, we have measured the absolute absorption spectrum of plasmid DNA (pUC8.c2), in buffered aqueous solution, from 5 to 20 GHz. Our technique does not suffer from the same experimental difficulties that plague other methods. We observe no absorption resonances in this frequency range, but we do see broadband differences, between DNA and pure buffer, that are attributable to changes in the ionic conductivity of the solutions. The distribution of intestinal absorption of 131I-labeled thyroxine (T4*) was studied in 4 normal subjects after oral and i.v. T4*, given in separate experimental sessions. Enoxacin, a new fluoroquinolone antibiotic, is rapidly and extensively absorbed after oral administration and has a bioavailability independent of dose and only slightly delayed by concurrent food. Plasma concentrations are similar for both intravenous and oral administration. The t1/2 for enoxacin ranges from 4 to 6 hours, which allows effective twice-daily administration without significant accumulation. Eight normal subjects and 4 children with osteogenesis imperfecta were administered salmon calcitonin (S-CT) intranasally, and the pharmacokinetics of S-CT were studied. In the normal subjects, the plasma S-CT concentration showed a dose-dependent increase over a dosage range of 200-400 IU. Maximal plasma concentrations were reached 20-60 min after intranasal administration of S-CT. The plasma calcium concentration was significantly decreased 60 min after the administration. Gastric intestinal absorption of five different preparations of sodium fluoride was measured by means of ten hour urinary excretion. Best absorption was by nonenteric coated sodium fluoride. All three enteric coated preparations showed poorer absorption, with marked individual variations. Florical, the currently available preparation, showed better absorption than any enteric coated tablets and only slightly less than sodium fluoride alone. For active cochlear otospongiosis two capsules three times a day should be prescribed.

The clinical course of 2 patients with primary hypomagnesemia is reported. In one male patient, 5 months old, measurements of magnesium retention, intestinal absorption, fecal excretion and renal clearance were performed. The retention (2.8%) and absorption (7.8%) of 28-Mg were markedly reduced in comparsion to controls (average retention 25% and average absorption 28%). The retention values of the parents and other realtives did not differ from those of healthy adults. The examined patient was sucessfully treated with trimagnesium dicitrate containing 1.75 g magnesium per day.
