In the treatment of hookworm infections, pharmacotherapy has been only moderately successful and drug resistance is a threat. Therefore, novel treatment options including combination therapies should be considered, in which tribendimidine could play a role. Our aims were to (i) characterize the pharmacokinetics of tribendimidine's metabolites in adolescents receiving tribendimidine monotherapy or in combination with ivermectin or oxantel pamoate, (ii) evaluate possible drug-drug interactions (DDI), (iii) link exposure to response, and (iv) identify a treatment strategy associated with high eff

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 576 to 740 million people globally are infected with hookworms. It remains a significant public health threat in tropical and subtropical regions. Especially in low-income countries, hookworm infection continues to affect millions, even with the availability of modern medical advancements. The present study is based on the transmission dynamics of hookworm infection in a population by using the strategy of mathematical modeling with computational methods. The population has been categorized into the following subp

BACKGROUND: Schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminth infections are among the neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) affecting primarily marginalized communities in low- and middle-income countries. Surveillance data for NTDs are typically sparse, and hence, geospatial predictive modeling based on remotely sensed (RS) environmental data is widely used to characterize disease transmission and treatment needs. However, as large-scale preventive chemotherapy has become a widespread practice, resulting in reduced prevalence and intensity of infection, the validity and relevance of these models sh

Hookworm, a parasitic infection, retains a considerable burden of disease, affecting the most underprivileged segments of the general population in endemic countries and remains one of the leading causes of mild to severe anemia in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs), particularly in pregnancy and children under 5. Despite repeated large scale Preventive Chemotherapy (PC) interventions since more than 3 decades, there is broad consensus among scholars that elimination targets set in the newly launched NTD roadmap will require additional tools and interventions. Development of a vaccine cou

OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility of autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) to predict the infection rates of hookworm in Jiangsu Province.
METHODS: From 1990 to 2006, the infection rates of hookworm were used for a training data set. As to obtain a stationary data set, the training data set was second-order differenced using the version SAS 9.0. The model parameters were screened by using the minimum information criterion. The ARIMA model was constructed to predict the infect rates of hookworm form 2007 to 2011.
RESULTS: The time-series model ARIMA (1, 2, 0) was confirmed prel
