Bisphenol A (BPA) is a ubiquitous industrial chemical found in numerous consumer products. While its endocrine-disrupting effects and reproductive toxicity are well-documented, the widespread use of structural analogues (BPs) as "BPA-free" alternatives has raised urgent concerns regarding their comparable health risks. In this study, we employed a systematic network toxicology framework to evaluate the pathogenic mechanisms of 16 bisphenol congeners in asthenospermia. Through an integrated screening of disease-target associations, five lead compounds-BPA, BPS, BPB, BPP, and BPM-were identified

The present study addresses the presence of bisphenols A (BPA) and its analogs bisphenol F (BPF) and S (BPS) in milk of 120 mothers living in Valencia (Spain) and participating in the BETTERMILK project (year 2015). We also studied the factors that could influence the BPA levels and estimated the exposure and the risk for breast fed infants. The frequency of detection of total (conjugated + unconjugated) and unconjugated-BPA were 83% and 77%, with a geometric mean of 0.29 ng/mL and 0.15 ng/mL, respectively. The frequency of detection was much lower for total-BPF (22%) and total-BPS (1.1%). The

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a widely used plastic monomer with well-established endocrine-disrupting properties and emerging evidence for metabolism-disrupting effects. Following regulatory restrictions, structurally modified alternatives, including halogenated derivatives, have been introduced, but information on their metabolic effects remains scarce. Hence, we analyzed proteomic and metabolomic responses in SGBS human adipocytes after exposure to BPA and five analogues (TBBPA, TCBPA, BPS, TBBPS, and TCBPS), including environmentally relevant concentrations of 10 nM. Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine and metabolic disruptor commonly employed as a color developer in thermal papers. Consequently, BPA derived from thermal papers has been considered an important source of exposure for humans, since this chemical may migrate from paper to skin upon contact. Further, due to recent restrictions on BPA use in some countries, it has been replaced by a new analogue, bisphenol S (BPS). The aim of the present study was to determine levels of BPA and BPS in 190 different thermal receipts, randomly collected from different locations in São Paulo State, Brazil, including

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a well-known endocrine disruptor, widely used in various consumer products and ubiquitously found in air, water, food, dust, and sewage leachates. Recently, several countries have restricted the use of BPA and replaced them with bisphenol S (BPS) and bisphenol F (BPF), which have a similar chemical structure to BPA. Compared to BPA, both BPS and BPF have weaker estrogenic effects, but their effects on human reproductive function including endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation still remain largely unknown. We used an in vitro spheroid (blastocyst surrogate) co-cul

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease poses a significant public health concern, as do the issues surrounding plastic usage. The bisphenols are reported to cause fat accumulation in the liver. However, literature is scanty about the effect of bisphenols on lysosomes or lysosomal functions. We predicted the interaction of bisphenols with lysosomal proteins available in the online databases using in silico tools. Molecular docking revealed that chosen Bisphenols interact with critical lysosomal proteins including lipid hydrolyzing enzymes. Following exposure of BPA, BPB and BPC to HepG2 cells fat acc

Prevalence studies revealed that one-third of the human population is chronically infected with Toxoplasma gondii. Presently, such infections are without medical treatment that effectively eradicates the parasite once it is in its latent form. Moreover, the therapeutics used to treat acute infections are poorly tolerated by patients and also cause the parasite to convert into long-lasting tissue cysts. Hence, there is a dire need for compounds with antiparasitic activity against all forms of T. gondii. This study examines the antiparasitic capacity of nine novel bisphenol Z (BPZ) derivatives t

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used in the production of certain plastics and resins. Recent research has found that BPA can inhibit the activity of 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase/Δ5,4-isomerases (3β-HSDs). Whether benzene ring BPA substitutes can inhibit human, rat, and mouse gonadal 3β-HSDs, the structure-activity relationship and the underlying mechanism remain unclear. In this study, we compared 6 benzene ring BPA substitutes to BPA in the inhibition of human, rat, and mouse gonadal 3β-HSDs and conducted structure-activity relationship and in silico docking analysis. The inhibitory activ

Animal studies indicate that bisphenol A (BPA) has obesogenic effects. Recent experiments reported similar endocrine-disrupting effects of bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol S (BPS), which are substitutes of BPA. The aim of this study was to investigate the exposure levels of these bisphenols in pregnant women and their effects on the physical development of infants aged 0-12 months. This study recruited pregnant women who gave birth at a hospital between February 2019 and September 2020. Urine samples from these pregnant women in the third trimester of pregnancy were detected by using ultrahigh-

Bisphenols are synthetic chemicals widely used in the production of plastics, resins, and food-contact materials, resulting in ubiquitous environmental exposure in humans and animals. Among their biological effects, increasing evidence highlights their ability to disrupt ovarian function. This review synthesizes current knowledge on the impact of bisphenols and their analogues on ovarian follicle physiology in domestic species, drawing primarily from bovine, ovine, and porcine studies, with comparisons to human and rodent data. After outlining bisphenol structures, exposure routes, and metabol

Bisphenol S (BPS), an analog of bisphenol A (BPA), has been frequently detected in consumer products, food wrappers, plastics, and thermal papers. Since the liver is a hub of metabolic and detoxification pathways, thus intimately related to BPS presence in the environment and body. The current study was designed to investigate the effects of BPS administration in an animal model. Twenty-five male Wistar rats weighing 175 ± 25 g were randomly divided into control and treated groups. The control group was further divided into group I (no treatment) and group II (corn oil), whereas the treatment

A novel B,N-decorated carbocatalyst (Fe@BPC-XBN) for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation was prepared by a simple pyrolysis method using the iron-based metal organic frameworks (Fe-MOF), boric acid and boron nitride (BN) as precursors. Fe@BPC-20BN removed 93.3% of bisphenol A (BPA) in 90 min compared to 64.9%, 82.1% and 83.5% with Fe@PC, Fe@BPC and Fe@PC-20BN, respectively, with 0.15 g/L catalyst and 1 mM PMS at initial pH of 7. The solo B-doping with boron acid on the Fe-MOF derived porous carbon enhanced its catalytic capacity; moreover, B, N co-doping with BN and boron acid as precursors fur

BACKGROUND: Exposure to bisphenols may affect fetal growth and development. The trimester-specific effects of bisphenols on repeated measures of fetal growth remain unknown. Our objective was to assess the associations of maternal bisphenol urine concentrations with fetal growth measures and birth outcomes and identify potential critical exposure periods.
METHODS: In a population-based prospective cohort study among 1379 pregnant women, we measured maternal bisphenol A, S and F urine concentrations in the first, second and third trimester. Fetal head circumference, length and weight were meas

Bisphenol (BPA) is a common environmental contaminant found in water, food, packaging, and human biological samples, raising significant health concerns due to its endocrine-disrupting properties, particularly its interference with estrogen receptors. We have developed a novel, portable paper-based sensor that utilizes a polydiacetylene (PDA) dye coated on filter paper. This sensor exhibits a distinct, concentration-dependent color change from blue to red when exposed to BPA. The colorimetric and fluorescence responses are driven by hydrogen bonding interactions between BPA's phenolic hydroxyl

BACKGROUND: Bisphenol A (BPA) and a growing number of its structural analogues and functional alternatives are widely used in consumer plastic products and therefore have high exposure potential. Social and environmental justice (SEJ) issues arise when exposure or health risks are unevenly distributed across populations. However, no global synthesis of their exposure levels exists.
OBJECTIVE: To systematically map concentrations of bisphenols and alternatives in humans, visualising patterns by country, population characteristics, and over time, and identifying research gaps relevant to SEJ.

BACKGROUND: Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), such as bisphenols and parabens, are widely used in consumer products and can interfere with placental development. Although their cellular and molecular effects have been explored, the relationship between these factors and placental anatomical abnormalities remains unclear. This pilot study assessed histopathological lesions in human placentas and evaluated potential associations with varying bisphenol and paraben concentrations measured in placental tissue.
METHODS: Thirty-seven placentas from the Pregnancy Prevention Endocrine Disruptors

Bisphenols, as common industrial raw materials, are widely used in food packaging such as plastics. However, their migration and residue may affect the hormone secretion of the human body and then lead to health problems. Therefore, a low-cost, rapid and simple detection method that can simultaneously detect multiple bisphenols is very necessary. In this work, two types of manganese single-atom nanozymes with excellent peroxidase-like activity were synthesized with graphyne as a support. A high-throughput colorimetric sensor array was constructed using three types of nanozymes (Mn-GY, Mn-GY-2N

Bisphenol analogues, including bisphenol A (BPA), are pervasive environmental contaminants known for their endocrine-disrupting properties. With the increasing use of alternative bisphenols due to regulatory restrictions on BPA, monitoring their presence in aquatic systems is critical. However, their low concentrations in environmental matrices complicate their detection. This study presents the optimisation using an experimental design of a solid phase-microextraction (SPME) method, coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), for the determination of nine bisphenols analogues (

Bisphenols (BPs) are widespread environmental endocrine disruptors, but their potential depression-related neurotoxicity has not been systematically assessed. Here, we combined machine learning (ML), network toxicology, molecular docking, and in vivo experiments to screen 26 bisphenols for depression-related neurotoxic risk. We first integrated bisphenol A (BPA)-related targets with depression-related genes to build a chemical-gene-phenotype-disease network and an adverse outcome pathway (AOP) framework. We then used nine ML algorithms to rank the predicted risk of the 26 bisphenols. Molecular
