Subcutaneous bronchogenic anomalies.

Two cases of congenital anomalies, one cyst and one sinus, presenting in the suprasternal notch are reported. No communication with deeper structures was found at surgery, and histology was compatible with previous descriptions of subcutaneous bronchogenic cysts. The literature is reviewed, and the similarity between these lesions and many cases of branchial fistula is stressed.

Parotid branchial cleft cyst with facial paralysis. Report of a case.

Cysts of branchlogenic origin are an extremely unusual source of parotid swelling. I describe the clinical course of a patient with a branchiogenic cyst that initially developed as a rapidly enlarging parotid mass associated with a partial facial paralysis.

Management of Nasopharyngeal Cyst of Second Branchial Cleft Origin: Case Series and Systematic Review.

Branchial cyst of the second pouch is the most common lesion of the nasopharyngeal lateral wall, generally localized between the pharyngeal wall and internal carotid artery. Cases consistent with such lesion, were collected. Symptomatic patients were treated with endoscopic trans-nasal marsupialisation, asymptomatic cases were followed-up. Among the 10 patients included, 4 were symptomatic and accordingly treated. In the literature, 36 cases were found, all of which were treated, most commonly with a total excision. Considering the benign nature of branchial nasopharyngeal cyst, its treatment

Endoscopically assisted transoral resection of a Bailey type IV second branchial cleft cyst: A case report.

RATIONALE: The diagnosis of type IV branchial cleft cyst (BCC) according to the Bailey classification is very challenging due to lack of specific clinical manifestations in the early stage of the disease. Here, we present the transoral surgical route of endoscopic resection of second BCC in the parapharyngeal space (PPS) with good outcomes. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 21-year-old man with a 1-year history of snoring complained about sore throat for 1 month and a fever that lasted for 3 days. DIAGNOSES: On admission, physical examination revealed a temperature of 39°C, pain when swallowing accompanie

Branchial cysts in two Amazon parrots (Amazona species).

A 37-year-old yellow-crowned Amazon parrot (Amazona ochrocephala) and a 20-year-old red-lored Amazon parrot (Amazona autumnalis) each presented with a large mass localized on the lateral neck. With the first bird, there was no evidence of signs of pain or discomfort, and the bird prehended and swallowed food normally. The second bird showed signs of mild upper-gastrointestinal discomfort. Results of an ultrasound examination and aspiration of the mass on each bird revealed a cystic structure. A computed tomography performed on the second bird revealed a large polycystic mass connected to the p

A combined approach excision of branchial fistula.

Second branchial cleft and pouch anomalies are by far the commonest of the branchial anomalies. In most cases, however, there is a unilateral cleft sinus. A complete fistula with external and internal openings is rare. We present a case with a complete branchial fistula in which the tract was followed from the neck to the tonsillar fossa using a combined approach.

First branchial cleft anomaly.

A 15-year-old girl presented with a cystic swelling since birth behind the ramus of the right mandible and diagnosed clinically as a dermoid cyst. Surgical exploration, however, showed that it was closely related to the external auditory canal, with an extension running medially behind the parotid gland and ending in the bony middle ear. The facial nerve was closely related to the deep part of the cyst. Such an anatomical position indicates that this was a first branchial cleft anomaly. Surgical excision of the cyst was performed.
