Patients with sensory deficits are especially prone to heating pad burns. Two cases are reported of patients with anesthetic skin who received partial and full-thickness burns of their feet from an electric heating pad. These burn injuries could have been prevented if the patients understood the potential hazard of heating pads.

Gasoline contact may cause significant full-thickness burn injuries. Systemic complications may result from the absorption of hydrocarbons through the skin. Regional neuromuscular absorption may produce transient or even permanent impairment. It is vital that the physician be aware of the possible full-thickness injuries and complications that may result from cutaneous exposure to gasoline.

The present study evaluates the evolution of renal function parameters and serum electrolytes in 34 severely burned patients. The population … maintained a low fractional sodium excretion. They were in general of older age and had more severe burns than the patients with normal renal function. The survival rate in the patients with acute renal failure was 30%, compared to 75% in the patients, who maintained normal renal function.

Granulocytes, predominantly polymorphonuclear neutrophils, are the major components of the body's defense against acute infections.
