One hundred and nineteen males were examined in a unit for anonymous examination and treatment of sexually transmitted infections and the diagnosis of gonorrhea as monoinfection was stated. Rocefin (ceftriaxine) in a single dose of 250 mg intravenously was prescribed. The control examinations were performed in I and 3 weeks with microscopic and cultural methods. The clinical signs ceased by the 1st or 2nd days. The efficacy of the clinical and microbiological cure was 100%. Ceftriaxone proved to be an optimal agent for the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea in males.

Ceftriaxone concentrations in sera of females at various terms of pregnancy and in certain organs and tissues of the fetus were assayed. The antibiotic was administered intramuscularly in doses of 1.0 and 0.5 g once a day. The concentrations were estimated by HPLC. The ceftriaxone levels in the specimens were tens times higher than the minimal treponemocidal concentration (0.01 mcg/ml). The doses were sufficient for the prophylaxis of hereditary syphilis. Meanwhile, the clinical practice indicated that duration of the ceftriaxone prophylaxis of the pregnant females should be increased.

Authors did the antibiotic-prophylaxis with ceftriaxone in twenty cesarean sections (1 phial EV). Prophylaxis was sufficient in thirteen cases; on the other hand, in the remaining seven prophylaxis was followed by the three days therapy (1 phial EV). A good tolerance of the medicine was revealed in all cases. Moreover, it was tested a wide antimicrobial action with resolution of all the verified infections, except for one bacterial resistance case where some other antibiotic was used.
