OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of combining cervical-length (CL) measurement and fetal fibronectin (fFN) testing in women with symptoms of preterm labor between 24 and 34 weeks' gestation.
METHODS: This was a model-based cost-effectiveness analysis evaluating seven test-treatment strategies based on CL measurement and/or fFN testing in women with symptoms of preterm labor from a societal perspective, in which neonatal outcomes and costs were weighted. Estimates of disease prevalence, test accuracy and costs were based on two recently performed nationwide cohort studies in The N

INTRODUCTION: A recent meta-analysis has suggested that routine measurement of the cervical length should be performed in conjunction with the anomaly scan to identify a group of women at increased risk of preterm delivery. We decided to investigate whether this recommendation is justifiable in a population where the risk of preterm birth is low.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We reviewed 12 years of obstetric data from the Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital. Relative risks of adverse outcomes from the randomized controlled trial were applied and we extrapolated the possible numbers of women

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether in symptomatic women, the combination of quantitative fetal fibronectin (fFN) testing and cervical length (CL) improves the prediction of preterm delivery (PTD) within 7 days compared with qualitative fFN and CL.
DESIGN: Post hoc analysis of frozen fFN samples of a nationwide cohort study.
SETTING: Ten perinatal centres in the Netherlands.
POPULATION: Symptomatic women between 24 and 34 weeks of gestation.
METHODS: The risk of PTD <7 days was estimated in predefined CL and fFN strata. We used logistic regression to develop a model including quantitative fFN a

OBJECTIVE: To test a sequential test with fetal fibronectin detection after ultrasound measurement of cervical length to predict preterm delivery in women with preterm labor.
STUDY DESIGN: Descriptive retrospective study on 111 women hospitalised for preterm labor between 24 and 34 weeks and six days of gestation. The primary outcomes were preterm delivery before 34 or 37 weeks of gestation or within seven or 14 days. Selective use of fetal fibronectin detection after cervical length measurement has been tested, with a sequential test considered positive if cervical length was inferior or equ…

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous preterm birth remains a leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality worldwide. Early identification of women at risk enables timely preventive interventions. This study compared the predictive performance of one-line and two-line first-trimester transvaginal cervical length measurement methods for predicting spontaneous preterm birth. Methods: This prospective cohort study enrolled 100 women with singleton pregnancies who attended a tertiary care hospital in Puducherry for routine first-trimester nuchal translucency screening between July 2024 and December 2025. …

CONCLUSIONS: The delta between routine cervical length measurements at 14-16 and 21-24 weeks of twin gestations cannot be used as a reliable predictor of PTB.

BACKGROUND: Preterm labor is one of major obstetric challenges and can be predicted by cervical length at mid-trimester. In some settings, transvaginal ultrasound is not available and the screening and prevention of preterm labor will be suboptimal. We hope to find a correlation between other marker i.e. lower uterine wall thickness measured by transabdominal ultrasonography and cervical length measured by transvaginal ultrasonography in Thai pregnant women during 16-32 weeks of gestation.
METHODS: This study was a cross-sectional study. 166 singleton pregnant women were invited to participat

OBJECTIVES: Twin pregnancies have a higher likelihood to experience spontaneous preterm birth (PTB). Those with imminent PTB need to be determined in order to undergo fetal lung maturation with glucocorticoids and therewith improve neonatal outcomes. The aim of this study was to assess the predictive value of the fetal fibronectin (fFN) test and the measurement of cervical length in twin pregnancies with symptoms of imminent PTB.
STUDY DESIGN: We performed an observational study on all twin pregnancies at the Medical University Vienna. Women were admitted to the hospital either due to symptom

Serial cervical length (CL) measurement in mid-trimester is recommended in post-conization pregnancy to estimate the risk of spontaneous preterm birth (SPTB). A short mid-trimester cervix (CL < 25 mm) has been considered as a strong predictor for SPTB. However, the low incidence of short cervix limits the utility of mid-trimester CL measurement in prediction of SPTB. A great proportion of women who develop SPTB don't have a short mid-trimester cervix. Therefore, this study was aimed to investigate the additional value of serial CL measurement in predicting SPTB in addition to detecting short c

METHODS: One hundred and forty-seven asymptomatic women at high-risk of PTB were referred to specialist antenatal clinics and underwent CL and fFN testing over a 12-month period. Women had both tests undertaken between 22(+0) and 30(+0) weeks' gestation, on one or more occasions.
RESULTS: In those who labored spontaneously (n = 132), positive fFN and CL ≤ 25 mm was assoc

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the power of transvaginal ultrasound cervical length (CL) and fetal fibronectin (fFN) measurement for the prediction of preterm delivery (PTD) in asymptomatic women with risk factors.
METHODS: Between January 2010 and October 2012, 218 women with singleton pregnancies and a high risk for PTD (i.e. prior history of PTD, cervical surgeries, late miscarriages, uterine abnormalities or premature rupture of the membranes) were selected. CL was measured by transvaginal ultrasonography between 14 and 22 weeks, and a CL<2.5 cm was considered to be short. The fFN was measured wi

This study was done to evaluate transvaginal ultrasonographic measurement of cervical length at 20 to 24 weeks and 37 weeks as a predictor of prolonged pregnancy (defined as a pregnancy that extended beyond 41+2 weeks of gestation [289 days]) in nulliparous women. This prospective observational study enrolled 149 consecutive nulliparous women with singleton gestation at 37 weeks. Cervical length was measured by transvaginal ultrasonography at 20 to 24 weeks and 37 weeks. Cervical length at 37 weeks, but not at 20 to 24 weeks, was significantly longer in women delivered at >41+2 weeks than in t

PURPOSE: To investigate the feasibility of measuring cervical length by transabdominal and transperineal ultrasound as alternatives to transvaginal ultrasound.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: 33 pregnant women with and 28 without cervical insufficiency at 16 to 35 weeks of gestation were examined by an experienced examiner (DEGUM II) and the cervical length was measured twice at an interval of 6 months. Comparability, reliability and comfort of the patients during the examinations were taken for statistical analysis.
RESULTS: There is poor agreement between transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound

PURPOSE: To investigate the correlation between cervical length measurements using transvaginal and transperineal approaches at 16-24 weeks of gestation.
METHODS: The prospective study recruited 110 singleton pregnant women. All the measurements were performed by one operator who was blinded to the results of both approaches. Cervical length was first measured by transvaginal sonography (TVUS) then transperineal sonography (TPUS). The transvaginal approach was used as the reference measurement. Patient preference regarding the sonographic approaches was evaluated using questionnaire.
