An ultracentrifuge technique, previously described by Staniforth et al (1981), has been used to study the adhesion profiles of several binary and ternary ordered powder mixes of pharmaceutical interest. Dipyrone is a prodrug which is used mainly for its analgesic and antipyretic effects. After oral intake, dipyrone is rapidly hydrolyzed to its main metabolite, 4-methylaminoantipyrine (4-MAA), from which many other metabolites are produced by enzymatic reactions. Twelve new N-aminosuccinimides were synthesized by the condensation of hydrazines with succinic anhydrides in glacial acetic acid. The compounds were evaluated in the maximal electroshock seizure and subcutaneous pentylenetetrazol seizure threshold tests for anticonvulsant activity and in the rotorod test for neurotoxicity in mice. The lowest dose at which several of the compounds exhibited anticonvulsant activity was 300 mg/kg.

We have calculated an ab initio HCN/HNC linelist for all transitions up to J= 25 and 18000 cm(-1) above the zero point energy. This linelist contains more than 200 million lines each with frequencies and transition dipoles. In order to obtain new compounds with cardiovascular activity, some esters of nitric acid with ethanolamine were synthesised, using some aromatic acids, acexamic acid, the natural methylxanthines-theophylline and theobromine. The use of a liquid penetration technique to assess the wettability and surface energy of a series of barbiturates, including the use of bicomponent systems, has been critically evaluated. Values of apparent contact angles (theta) obtained using the Washburn relationship (1921) and the Carli & Simioni correction (1979) were found to reflect the practically derived wettability of the powders. Interaction of 1 mole of magnesium salicylate and 2 moles of theophylline in water precipitated a crystalline compound, identified as theophylline magnesium salicylate pentahydrate from analytical and supportive physicochemical data. Similarly, barium salicylate and theophylline produced theophylline barium salicylate. No precipitates were formed with calcium salicylate or strontium salicylate under the same conditions.
