Malignant melanoma is the most frequently encountered primary intraocular neoplasm. Within the eye this tumour arises in the uveal tract where the choroid is affected more often than the iris or ciliary body. The tumour occurs typically in middle life and the aetiology is not known. Uveal tissue is heavily pigmented in all races but ocular melanoma is notably rare in negroes. There is clinical and pathological evidence that malignant change may take place in a choroidal naevus, but melanoma has arisen in eyes documented to have no pre-existing pigmented lesion.

We describe the case of a 69-year-old woman who presented with a decline in vision in the left eye and was found to have a choroidal lesion with clinical and echographic features concerning for primary uveal melanoma. Systemic imaging identified numerous metastases to the liver, kidneys, paratracheal lymph nodes, lung, and brain. The hepatic lesion was biopsied, and genetic analysis identified a Val600Glu (c.1799T>A) BRAF mutation, consistent with a cutaneous primary malignancy, although no primary tumor was identified. This case highlights that metastasis to the choroid is a rare presentation

Choroid plexus papillomas are rare brain neoplasms, primarily observed in children, and typically manifest with symptoms indicative of heightened intracranial pressure and cerebral irritation. In addition, the tumor's localization varies with the patient's age, and diagnostic and therapeutic approaches predominantly rely on imaging findings and surgical interventions, with histopathological examination being essential for confirmation. This study outlines a unique instance of choroid plexus papilloma in a 30-year-old female, who presented with severe headache and vomiting, subsequently reveali

Computed tomographic (CT) and clinical findings in 14 patients with 17 lesions of the choroid plexus are presented. Primary neoplasms are the most common lesions in this series and include papillomas, meningiomas, carcinoma, astrocytoma, and teratocarcinoma. There are five vascular lesions, consisting of cavernous angiomas, hemangiomas, and an arteriovenous malformation. One patient had bilateral xanthogranulomas. There was association between cavernous angiomas and Sturge-Weber, and between meningiomas and neurofibromatosis. Useful distinguishing clinical and CT features between the different

Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are rare intracranial neoplasms, representing <1% of all brain tumors, yet they represent 20% of first-year pediatric brain tumors. Although these tumors have been linked to TP53 germline mutations in the context of Li-Fraumeni syndrome, their somatic driver alterations remain poorly understood. In this study, we report two cases of lateral ventricle tumors: 3-yr-old male diagnosed with an atypical choroid plexus papilloma (aCPP), and a 6-mo-old female diagnosed with a choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC). We performed whole-exome sequencing of paired blood and tumor tis

Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are rare neoplasms. Patient presentation varies depending on the location of the lesions. Gross total resection of primary lesions remains the gold standard for surgical treatment of CPTs. Here, we present the case of a 22-year-old male patient with 2-day history of abnormal body movement and headache who was found to have an enhancing mass of the lateral ventricle. The patient underwent craniotomy for gross-total resection of the lesion, with final histopathology demonstrating WHO Grade II aCPP.

Considering the limited information about the role of hereditary predisposition to the development of uveal melanoma, we have performed an analysis of the frequencies of BARD1 (rs1048108, rs2229571, rs2070094) and BRIP1 (rs4986764) gene polymorphisms in patients with uveal melanoma and benign choroidal nevus in comparison with healthy volunteers (control). It has been found that the minor alleles of BRIP1 rs4986764 and BARD1 rs2070094 polymorphisms, as well as the homozygosity of T allele at the BARD1 rs1048108 locus are common genetic markers for the predisposition to uveal melanoma and benig

Congenital intracranial meningiomas are rare lesions. We present a case of congenital intraventricular cystic meningioma, initially characterized with fetal MRI and confirmed postnatally with histopathology. To our knowledge, this is the first in vivo description of a congenital meningioma with fetal MRI. The fetal MRI was able to characterize the lesion as an atypical intraventricular mass which was separate from the choroid plexus, differentiating the mass from a choroid plexus neoplasm. An intraventricular location of the meningioma is more commonly described in pediatric than in adult pati

BACKGROUND: Choroid plexus carcinoma is an intraventricular neoplasm originating from the choroid plexus epithelium and is of rare occurrence in adults. However, owing to the low prevalence of choroid plexus carcinoma, there is very limited information about the disease entity and treatment. Here we report a rare case of choroid plexus carcinoma in an adult patient.

Plasma carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) was studied in 60 patients with histologically confirmed intraocular neoplasms including 56 malignant melanomas of the uvea and four metastatic tumors to the choroid. While 45% of the patients with primary uveal melanomas, as well as 75% of the patients with metastatic disease demonstrated elevated plasma CEA levels, both patients who exhibited metastatic lesions of entodermal origin demonstrated plasma CEA values that clearly fell into a separate, highly elevated category, consistent with metastatic disease or pancreatic or colorectal carcinoma. Thus, in

Report on Feulgen-cytophotometric DNA studies of 8 choroid plexus papillomas. 7 tumours reveal distinct diploid stemlines in their karyogram. One tumour with oncocytic transformation exhibits a stemline in the triploid stage. These findings reflect the DNA pattern of a benign euploid neoplasm of the there investigated tumours.

Choroid Plexus Tumors (CPT) are rare (2-4% of all pediatric CNS tumors), predominantly early childhood brain neoplasms. Due to their rarity and the lack of prospective clinical trials, evidence-based treatment guidelines remain limited. This review provides a comprehensive summary of the current knowledge.\n\nCPTs span a spectrum from mature Choroid Plexus Papillomas (CPP) to malignant Choroid Plexus Carcinomas (CPC), with Atypical Choroid Plexus Papillomas (aCPP) in between. A significant proportion of CPCs are driven by either somatic or germline TP53 mutations (Li-Fraumeni syndrome); howeve

Breast and lung cancers are the most common primary neoplasms to manifest with choroidal metastases. The incidence of choroidal metastases from metastatic lung cancer was reported to be 2-6.7%. We report a case of bilateral choroidal metastasis from non-small cell lung cancer. A 59-year-old Caucasian female patient, never a smoker, was diagnosed with stage IV lung adenocarcinoma metastatic to the pleura, bones, and the brain. Her initial scan of the chest showed innumerable soft tissue nodules and mediastinal adenopathy compatible with metastatic disease. Her initial brain MRI showed numerous

CASE SUMMARY: A 10-year-old male neutered Russian Blue cat was presented with a 2-month history of progressive non-ambulatory paraparesis. Spinal MRI revealed a well-demarcated, compressive intradural extramedullary mass at the level of T1 vertebra. The mass had subtle hyperintensity on T2-weighted images, was isointense on T1-weighted images and had diffuse, marked enhancement following gadolinium administration. Neuroaxis MRI, including limited brain sequences, excluded other visible lesions. Thoracic and abdominal radiographs were unremarkable. The mass was resected via a dorsal C7-T2 lamin

Choroid plexus tumors (CPTs) are rare intraventricular neoplasms that primarily occur in children and are rare in adults. Of the CPT subtypes, choroid plexus carcinomas (CPC) are highly aggressive and malignant and of World Health Organization (WHO) Grade III. Dissemination through the cerebrospinal fluid space is the inevitable natural course of the disease. In this case report, we present a 33-year-old female with a past medical history notable for schizophrenia and bipolar disease who suffered from left-sided acute vision loss and hearing loss. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated
