This study reviews 6 patients who were referred with severe loin pain radiating to the groin and in whom a presumptive diagnosis of ureteric colic was made. Of these, 3 patients were found to have carcinoma of the pancreas and the remaining 3 had retroperitoneal lymph node metastases. Retroperitoneal malignancies rarely present with loin pain, but this diagnosis should be considered in patients with long-standing loin pain in whom an obvious diagnosis is not apparent.

A 65 year old woman with gall stones presented with crushing chest pain after an attack of biliary colic. Renal autotransplantation as an alternative to ileal interposition has been done successfully in patients with repetitive episodes of renal colic. A Mesenteric panniculitis is an uncommon disorder with unknown etiology. It may cause nonspesific abdominal or systemic symptoms. Radiological modalitis especially computed tomography are very helpful to make a diagnosis. Hence, the radiologist should be familiar with its tomographic findings to avoid further examinations and unnecessary surgery. We report computed tomography findings of mesenteric panniculitis in an adult patient with renal colic.

Intussusception in neonatal age is very rare. A 12-day-old child was referred from peripheral hospital with history of intolerance to feed, absolute constipation, abdominal distension and significant bilious aspirate. OBJECTIVE: To determine the role of intrarenal Doppler ultrasound (US) in patients with renal colic and to establish the usefulness of this diagnostic method.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In 121 patients with renal colic and 70 healthy individuals, 382 kidneys were examined with color duplex US. Mean intrarenal-arterial resistive index (RI), and the difference of mean RIs (dRI) between both kidneys were determined. Cecal-colic volvulus was confirmed by surgery in two dogs. Both dogs were intact, male Great Danes. The clinical and diagnostic findings were not specific for large bowel volvulus. Clinical signs included peracute to acute onset of vomiting, mild abdominal distention and pain, lack of feces, and tenesmus. Abdominal radiographs demonstrated severe dilatation of bowel loops in both dogs. One dog survived.

A unique case of breast cancer presenting as renal colic due to ureteral obstruction is presented. Although antemortem diagnosis has been uncommon, ureteral metastases frequently are found in autopsy studies. Improvements in the management of patients with disseminated breast cancer may lead to more frequent recognition of this problem.
