Rapid and sustainable self-questionnaire for large-scale psychological screening in pandemic conditions for healthcare workers.

BACKGROUND: The pandemic caused by a coronavirus (COVID-19) has shocked healthcare systems worldwide. However, the psychological stressors remain unclear. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of a major pandemic on healthcare workers. We hypothesized that exposure to the virus would be the primary cause of psychological stress perceived by healthcare workers. METHODS: A national cross-sectional study conducted via an online questionnaire was distributed between April 9 and April 19, 2020 with a non-probabilistic sample technique. A structural equation model (SEM) was built wit

Clinical condition, Resuscitation and Medical-Psychological Care of Severe COVID-19 patients (part 2).

Respiratory rehabilitation is the penultimate step in the medical management of patients with severe COPD-19. It is an essential step before patients' returning home, and is usually carried out in specialised Follow-up and Rehabilitation Clinics. When discharged from hospital, patients with post-severe COVID-19 usually progress in their medical condition. However, they may remain frail and have a constant fear of possible deterioration leading to (re)hospitalisation and a return to baseline. Psychological support in this phase can reduce patients' anxiety and increase their motivation to carry

Association of kynurenine metabolites with cognitive and psychological symptoms in post COVID-19 condition: A case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive dysfunction and psychological symptoms, including depression and anxiety, are commonly observed in chronic post COVID condition (PCC). Alterations in the kynurenine pathway have been proposed as a potential underlying mechanism; however, their role in neurocognitive and psychological long-term PCC symptoms remains unclear. This study investigates differences in general cognitive function, verbal memory, psychological distress, and peripheral kynurenine metabolites between individuals with PCC and recovered controls and explores group-specific associations. METHODS: This

Mental health outcomes in patients with a long-term condition: analysis of an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies service.

BACKGROUND: Having a long-term condition (LTC) significantly affects mental health. UK policy requires effective mental health provisions for patients with an LTC, generally provided by Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services. National IAPT data suggest that patients with an LTC typically demonstrate poorer outcomes compared with patients without an LTC. However, exploration of confounding factors and different outcome variables is limited. AIMS: To establish the association of LTC status with demographic and clinical factors, and clinical mental health outcomes. METHOD:

The connection between the psychological condition of breast cancer patients and survival. A follow-up after eight years.

Forty breast cancer patients (Stage I, II) were interviewed in 1984. Eight years later, in 1992, 8 of the 40 women had died in the intervening period of time, another 7 women had developed bone metastases, and the remaining 25 women had no evidence of disease. The main findings of this study indicate that the psychological distress, anxiety, hostility, paranoid ideation and psychoticism, as well as the Global Severity Index (GSI), of the eight patients who died during the 8 years following diagnosis were more severe at the time of diagnosis than that of the patients who survived. Moreover, the

Scrotal Reconstruction Following Excision of Idiopathic Scrotal Calcinosis: A Rare Condition with a Psychological Impact-A Case Report.

Idiopathic scrotal calcinosis (ISC) is a rare and benign disorder occurring in the absence of a systemic disorder of calcium-phosphate metabolism. It presents in childhood or early adulthood, and affected individuals present with multiple, asymptomatic calcified nodules on the scrotum. We report the case of a 38-year-old man who presented via referral from the dermatologist to the plastic surgery clinic with a 22-year history of multiple scrotal nodules. The examination revealed multiple hard nodules in his scrotal skin. Following evaluation, he underwent scrotal excision with scrotoplasty. Hi

Reframing Rehabilitation Retention in Long-Term Conditions: A Theory-Informed Mini-Review of Psychological Adaptation and Engagement.

Rehabilitation in long-term conditions requires not only clinical capacity but also sustained patient engagement, yet retention is commonly reduced to crude completion metrics. This theory-informed conceptual mini-review used a purposive, non-systematic synthesis of literature identified from the authors' existing knowledge base, targeted PubMed/MEDLINE searches last updated on 9 August 2026, and backward reference checking; the final article cites 76 sources. Retention is reframed as six related phases comprising referral and eligibility, uptake or initiation, early attendance, ongoing attend

Exploring predictors of clinical response to a transdiagnostic, internet-delivered psychological intervention for people with chronic health conditions.

INTRODUCTION: This study aims to identify participant- and treatment-related characteristics associated with response and deterioration in an internet-delivered intervention for people with chronic health conditions. Understanding these factors is critical for the development and delivery of these treatments. METHOD: Data were drawn from a randomized controlled trial of a transdiagnostic, internet-delivered intervention for people with chronic health conditions (N = 590). Demographic (e.g., age, gender, employment, education), clinical (e.g., health condition, medication usage, multimorbidity
