PURPOSE: To evaluate causes and management of congenital corneal opacities (CCO) diagnosed in a tertiary care eye center and to compare the data with a previous study at the same institution.
METHODS: Computerized medical records in all patients with congenital corneal opacities diagnosed in the Cornea Service at Wills Eye Hospital (Philadelphia, PA) between January 1, 2007, and December 31, 2015, were retrospectively reviewed. AIMS: National blindness surveys conducted in the Gambia in 1986 and 1996 showed an increase in blindness and visual impairment from non-trachomatous opacity. This study aimed to investigate the aetiology of these opacities and to assess the resulting visual burden.

PURPOSE: To report a case in which corneal autograft and allograft were performed in a 10.5-month-old, ex 24-week, premature boy with bilateral corneal opacities from infectious keratitis.
METHODS: Case report based upon chart review.

PURPOSE: The aims of this study were to construct a mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-laden in situ-forming hydrogel and study its effects on preventing corneal stromal opacity.
METHODS: The native gellan gum was modified by high temperature and pressure, and the rabbit bone marrow MSCs were encapsulated before adding Ca 2+ to initiate cross-linking. The effects of the hydrogel on 3D culture and gene expression of the rabbit bone marrow MSCs were observed in vitro.
