Synthesis and characterization of Cp*Ru[eta3-HC(PPh2NPh)2], 1, reveals it to have a "piano stool" structure with the ligand bound to Ru(II) via two N and the unique, sp3 hybridized carbon. While the analogous (cymene) Ru[eta3-HC(PPh2NPh)2]+ does not react with CO, under the same conditions, 1 adds one CO rapidly (25 degrees C, 1 atm CO). Characterization, including an X-ray structure determination, shows that CO has displaced one chelate ligand nitrogen, which then hangs off the molecule, free of Ru. DFT calculations reveal a possible mechanism via a remarkably low energy (+9.3 kcal/mol) inter

Cannabis sativa is one of the oldest cultivated plants. Many of the medicinal properties of cannabis are known, although very few cannabis-based formulations became prescribed drugs. Previous research demonstrated that cannabis varieties are very different in their medicinal properties, likely due to the entourage effect-the synergistic or antagonistic effect of various cannabinoids and terpenes. In this work, we analyzed 25 cannabis extracts containing high levels of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). We used HCC1806 squamous cell carcinoma and demonstrated various degrees of efficiency of t

To optimize the compatibility with target ingredients in food processing and ensure standardized application, it is essential to characterize thyme's volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from specific species and origins. In this study, 116 VOCs were identified in thyme samples from four main Chinese production regions by two-dimensional gas chromatography/time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC × GC-TOFMS). Among them, eight compounds- thymol (5.27 %-13.28 %), eucalyptol (9.25-12.23 %), thymoquinone (11.16-15.98 %), etc.- were identified as the most abundant constituents. Samples NX, WQ, JB, and NM

New ruthenium(II) complexes were synthesised and characterized by various spectro analytical techniques. The structure of the complexes 3 and 4 has been confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The complexes were subjected to study their anti-oxidant profile and were exhibited significantly greater in vitro DPPH radical scavenging activity than vitamin C. We found that complexes 1-4 confered tolerance to oxidative stress and extend the mean lifespan of mev-1 mutant worms and wild-type Caenorhabditis elegans. Further, mechanistic study and reporter gene expression analysis revealed that Ru(ƞ6-p-cyme

Iron(II) and Ru(II) half-sandwich compounds encompass some promising pre-clinical anticancer agents whose efficacy may be tuned by structural modification of the coordinated ligands. Here, we combine two such bioactive metal centres in cationic bis(diphenylphosphino)alkane-bridged heterodinuclear [Fe2+, Ru2+] complexes to delineate how ligand structural variations modulate compound cytotoxicity. Specifically, Fe(II) complexes of the type [(η5-C5H5)Fe(CO)2(κ1-PPh2(CH2)nPPh2)]{PF6} (n = 1-5), compounds 1-5, and heterodinuclear [Fe2+, Ru2+] complexes, [(η5-C5H5)Fe(CO)2(μ-PPh2(CH2)nPPh2))(η6-p-cym

Holotrichia parallela is one of the agriculturally important scarab beetle pests in China. In this study, HparOBP14 was cloned, which is the most abundantly expressed among the OBP genes in the legs of female H. parallela adults. Sequence comparison and phylogenetic analysis showed that HparOBP14 has a Plus-C structure motif. The expression profile analysis revealed that HparOBP14 expression was the highest in the female antennae and then in the legs. The fluorescence competitive binding experiment of the recombinant HparOBP14 protein showed that HparOBP14 had an affinity with 6-methyl-5-hepte

Syntheses of two novel cyclodiphosphazane derivatives appended on catechol and 1,2,4,5-tetrahydroxy benzene, [{(μ-N(tBu)P)2(C6H4O2)}] (1) and [{((μ-N(tBu)P)2)2(μ-C6H2O4)}] (2), are described. Reactions of 1 with copper(i) halides led to the isolation of one-dimensional (1-D) and two-dimensional (2-D) coordination polymers, depending on the reaction conditions, metal-to-ligand ratio and CuX (X = Cl, Br or I) employed. The 1 : 1 reaction between 1 and CuCl yielded a 1-D coordination polymer [{(μ-N(tBu)P)2(C6H4O2)}{Cu(μ2-Cl)(NCCH3)}2]n (3) containing [Cu(μ2-Cl)]2 rhombus units. Similar reactions

Light is a crucial environmental factor that profoundly influences the growth and development of plants. However, the precise mechanisms by which light affects biochemical processes and growth and development factors in Thymus vulgaris remain unknown, necessitating further investigation. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the impact of different light spectra, including red, blue, red-blue, and white lights, on the morphological characteristics, primary, and specialized metabolites of T. vulgaris. Compared to white light, red light significantly increased leaf area (by 64 %), the number of

(Arene)dichloridoruthenium(II) complexes with N-coordinated isonicotinates of androgens (6) and estrogens (9) were prepared and tested for affinity to the estrogen receptor (ERα) and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), as well as for cytotoxicity in cancer cells. None of the new complexes bound noticeably to the ER and most of them also bound less strongly to SHBG than the corresponding unmetallated steroids 7. In MTT assays the Ru(p-cymene) complexes 9 of 2-substituted estrones were equally or even more cytotoxic than the metal-free steroids against hormone-dependent (MCF-7 breast and KB-V1

Despite extensive research on the anticancer properties of Ru complexes with dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine (dppz) ligands, their in vivo efficacy is rarely investigated. Aiming to understand whether the coordination of certain half-sandwich Ru(II)-arene fragments might improve the therapeutic potential of dppz ligands, we prepared a series of Ru(II)-arene complexes with the general formula [(η6-arene)Ru(dppz-R)Cl]PF6, where the arene fragment was benzene, toluene, or p-cymene and R was -NO2, -Me, or -COOMe. All compounds were fully characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and high-resol

Thymol and carvacrol are phenolic monoterpenes found in thyme, oregano, and several other species of the Lamiaceae. Long valued for their smell and taste, these substances also have antibacterial and anti-spasmolytic properties. They are also suggested to be precursors of thymohydroquinone and thymoquinone, monoterpenes with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antitumor activities. Thymol and carvacrol biosynthesis has been proposed to proceed by the cyclization of geranyl diphosphate to γ-terpinene, followed by a series of oxidations via p-cymene. Here, we show that γ-terpinene is oxidized by

Brazil is home to a wide variety of flora, including several lesser known species, such as araçá that were processed in this study using two green technologies consecutively: supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) for nonpolar fraction and pressurized liquid extraction. For polar fraction, the experiments followed a central composite design involving ethanol as solvent, with temperature and static time in each bath as independent variables. Both extracts were analyzed for antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. Total phenolics content (TPC) was determined for all ethanol extracts. In the araçá
