Second-derivative absorption spectra are reported for a variety of oxidation and ligation states of bovine cytochrome c oxidase (ferrocytochrome-c:oxygen oxidoreductase, EC 1.9.3.1). The high resolving power of the second-derivative method allows us to assign the individual electronic transitions of cytochrome alpha and cytochrome alpha 3 in many of these states. Hepatic and renal microsomal electron transport components and erythrocyte delta-aminolevulinate dehydratase were investigated in adult male rats exposed to 0, 50, 200 and 600 ppm tetrachloroethylene for 4 weeks. Effects of mixed-function oxidase inducers and inhibitors on cytochrome P-450 content, gel electrophoresis profiles, and 3-methylindole-induced lung injury were studied in goats. In a number of caimans (Caiman sclerops) we were unable to find traces of myoglobin in any of the histologically clearly cross-striated cardiac and skeletal muscles using spectrometric methods. The red colour of the heart is due to a high concentration of cytochrome c. This substance was also found in the muscles of the neck, back, tail, and the anterior extremities.

The effect of dietary vitamin C on the reduction of cytochrome c and cytochrome P-450 by NADPH-cytochrome P-450 reductase was determined in guinea pig liver microsomes. Acute vitamin C deficiency decreased hepatic microsomal cytochrome P-450 content 21% and the rate of cytochrome P-450 reduction 66% without affecting cytochrome c reduction.
