Histopathological insight of complex odontoma associated with a dentigerous cyst.

Odontomas and dentigerous cysts are common findings for practicing dental professionals. However, simultaneous occurrence of pathologies like odontoma and dentigerous cyst are uncommon and their diagnosis based on the radiographic appearance alone is a challenge to overcome. They together are a potential for complications like attaining large size, root resorption, destruction of the jaw bones and sometimes neoplastic changes like ameloblastoma. This paper presents a case of complex odontoma associated with dentigerous cyst in relation to a retained deciduous tooth in the maxillary anterior re…

Dentigerous cyst containing multiple impacted teeth: a rare case report.

The dentigerous cyst is a developmental odontogenic cyst, which apparently develops by accumulation of fluid between reduced enamel epithelium and the tooth crown of an unerupted tooth. It is one of the most prevalent types of odontogenic cysts associated with erupted, developing, or impacted tooth, particularly the mandibular third molars, the other teeth that are commonly affected are maxillary canines. The present case report is unique as it enclosed three permanent maxillary teeth: the central incisor, lateral incisor, and canine that had to be extracted during surgical enucleation of the …

Functional surgery for the treatment of dentigerous cyst in the maxillary sinus.

BACKGROUND: Dentigerous cyst (DC) in the maxillary sinus is rarely seen. Several complications are observed after the Caldwell-Luc operation, which is combined with endoscopy. Still, a more perfect treatment method is yet to be discovered. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to explore and assess a new functional surgical treatment with fewer complications, which not only insured normal maxillary sinus cilia restoration and bony integrity but also did little damage to maxillary sinus natural ostium. METHODS: Dentigerous cyst in the maxillary sinuses of 20 patients had conditions diagno…

Eruption prediction of mandibular premolars associated with dentigerous cysts.

OBJECTIVE: A tooth with a dentigerous cyst (DC) does not always erupt by marsupialization. The eruption duration and conditions of DC-associated premolars were examined to predict such eruption following marsupialization. STUDY DESIGN: The eruption and conditions including depth, root formation, inclination, and eruption space were examined retrospectively in 21 DC-associated mandibular premolars using dental and panoramic radiograms. RESULTS: Fifteen of 21 premolars erupted half within 3 months and all 15 erupted completely within 10 months after marsupialization, without orthodontic tracti…

Dentigerous cysts in primary dentition: report of 2 cases.

Dentigerous cysts are benign odontogenic cysts associated with the crowns of permanent teeth. They are usually single in occurrence and located in the mandible. The purpose of this case report was to describe the management of 2 dentigerous cysts in children. The treatments instituted were the extraction of the deciduous tooth involved followed by marsupialization in the first case and enucleation in the second one. Both treatments allowed rapid healing of the lesion and eruption of the permanent teeth without the need for orthodontic treatment.

A Case of a Dentigerous Cyst with a Malformed Tooth in the Mandible of a Child.

Of 130 patients admitted with acute cholecystitis, 100 were selected for a prospective study comparing the risks and benefits of early cholecystectomy versus initial conservative management followed by elective surgery. Comparative evaluation was carried out regarding operative difficulties and mishaps, postoperative complications, duration of hospitalization and compliance for surgery. Early cholecystectomy has advantage in terms of quick definitive treatment, completion of therapy in one hospital admission and salvage from serious complications of acute cholecystitis. Operative difficulties

Marsupialization of a Large Dentigerous Cyst in the Mandible: A Case Report.

Dentigerous cysts (DCs) are one of the most common cysts in the oral and maxillofacial region, and they are often discovered by chance in young people. The methods of treatment differ according to the size they reach, but the prognosis and results of the treatment are generally good. DCs are often associated with impacted teeth, especially mandibular third molars and maxillary canines, and they are usually discovered when they reach large sizes or get infected after they have caused great absorption and destruction of the surrounding cortical bone and displacement in adjacent teeth. This case …

Preservation of Involved Teeth Associated with Large Dentigerous Cysts.

Dentigerous cysts (DCs) are benign odontogenic cysts that are associated with the crowns of permanent teeth. The purpose of this study is to describe the management of DCs in four children. Four boys aged between 7 and 9 years were referred to our clinics with the complaints of intraoral alveolar swelling or facial asymmetry on the affected area. The panoramic radiographies showed large, well-defined radiolucent lesions associated with the deciduous teeth and displaced tooth buds. The treatment consisted of the extraction of the involved deciduous tooth and marsupialization of the cyst to allo…

Maxillary dentigerous cyst and supernumerary tooth. Is it a frequent association?

UNLABELLED: Dentigerous cysts, also known as follicular cysts, are a relatively common pathology in our field. They are associated with unerupted or semi-erupted teeth and are usually not related to supernumerary teeth. OBJECTIVE: To describe a dentigerous cyst case associated to a supernumerary tooth. CASE-REPORT: A large-sized dentigerous cyst is described, associated with a supernumerary tooth, affecting the whole maxillary anterior area. Appropriate treatment consists of performing root canals and a Partsch II procedure with a cystectomy, extracting the unerupted teeth, carrying out an a…

Not everything in the maxillary sinus is sinusitis: a case of a dentigerous cyst.

A 4-year-old girl presented to a medical clinic with a painless right facial swelling. The treating physician ordered a radiograph of the sinuses and received a report of "maxillary sinusitis." After appropriate antibiotic treatment, the facial swelling increased, and the mother took the child to her community pediatrician. After a period of observation and additional imaging, the diagnosis of dentigerous cyst was made. After appropriate surgical intervention, the cyst was removed, and over the ensuing 6 weeks the facial swelling gradually diminished. Dentigerous cysts, although uncommon, need…

Spontaneous regression of bilateral dentigerous cysts: a case report.

UNLABELLED: A dentigerous cyst is the most common developmental odontogenic cyst and believed to be slowly progressive in nature. This case report describes an incidental finding of spontaneous regression of bilateral dentigerous cysts associated with lower impacted third molars in a 30-year-old, fully dentate female. Together with three other similar reports, a few possible explanations are postulated and the understanding of natural history of dentigerous cysts is questioned. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The discovery of a dentigerous cyst in a patient always warrants special attention. This article…
