[Effects of experimental Listeria monocytogenes infection on mice fed on lamprey or sardine oil prepared under high-temperature deodorization].

Fresh lamprey (F-La) or sardine (F-Sa) oil is known to contain a large amount of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) acids. When F-La or F-Sa was deodorized with steam at 280 degrees C under 1 mmHg for 1 h (H-La and H-Sa, respectively), the contents of EPA and DHA were reduced and unidentified peaks were newly detected by gas-liquid chromatography. To know the biological influences of these high-temperature deodorized oils, the sterilizing function of the macrophage against Listeria monocytogenes was investigated in male ddY mice fed H-La or

Stable Isotope Tracer to Reveal the Interconversion between 3-Monochloro-1,2-propanediol Ester and Glycidyl Ester during the Deodorization Process.

In this study, the effects of the deodorization process on the interconversion between 3-monochloro-1,2-propanediol ester (3-MCPDE) and glycidyl ester (GE) using 3-MCPDE or GE standards containing deuterium-labeled palmitic acid (*P), oleic acid (*O), or linoleic acid (*L) were examined. Deuterium-labeled 3-MCPDE or GE was added to palm oil then deodorized at 250 °C for 20, 40, or 60 min. In the 3-MCPDE-spiked palm oil, the deuterium-labeled 3-MCPDE content decreased with deodorization time. Moreover, GE containing *P or *O was detected, but there was no GE containing *L in the 3-MCPDE-spiked

Effects of Supplemental Antioxidative Substances on Micronutrient Retention and Antioxidative Capacity in Rapeseed Oil During Low-Temperature Ethanol Steam Deodorization.

This study investigated the effects of four antioxidative substances, α-tocopherol (α-TP), phytosterols (PS), squalene (SQ), and propyl gallate (PG), on micronutrient retention and antioxidative capacity of rapeseed oil during ethanol steam deodorization (ESD, 140-220 °C). Results demonstrated that supplementation with these antioxidants increased the retention rates (percentage relative to initial content) of tocopherols, phenols, carotenoids, phytosterols, and squalene by up to 2.92%, 46.25%, 25.82%, 1.03%, and 60.15%, respectively. These improvements are attributed to the protective effects

BT100, a three-in-one, multipurpose disinfecting, deodorizing, and air-cleaning solution with an effective, gradual, and continuous gaseous chlorine dioxide-releasing substance.

Aerosols carrying viruses that are released from the oral cavity of infected individuals are the primary, if not the only, means of transmission during viral respiratory disease epidemics. This makes crowded rooms and tiny, enclosed public areas like bathrooms prime environments for the transmission of diseases. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and formaldehyde are two contaminants that pose serious threats to human health and well-being in indoor environments. The varied disinfectant properties of chlorine dioxide (ClO2) make it a key player in treating a range of air quality issues. To bala

Statistical evaluation to validate matrix-matched calibration for standardized beany odor compound quantitation in yellow pea flour using HS-SPME-GC-MS.

Accurate and precise quantitation of beany odor compounds is important in developing yellow pea (Pisum sativum L., YP) flour-based foods. Aiming at establishing standardized external calibration using an internal standard (ECIS) quantitation method, the effect of solvent extraction on matrix deodorization and systematic statistical analysis on quantitation was evaluated. Initially, accelerated dichloromethane extraction on YP flour and starch produced two clearest deodorized matrix-matched matrices. Secondly, due to the heteroskedasticity, weighted least squares regression (WLSR) was introduce

Epidemiology, pathology, and treatment of axillary hidradenitis suppurativa.

The epidemiology, pathology, and management of axillary hidradenitis suppurativa were examined in 11 patients with this disease. On the basis of this study, the following predisposing factors were incriminated in the epidemiology of the disease: predilection of the disease for women, obesity, hair removal by a safety razor, antiperspirants and deodorants, and local pyogenic infections distant from the axilla. Because antiperspirants do not effect transepidermal water loss of axillary skin, their potential deleterious effects are probably related to their chemical irritant effects on cut, nicke…

Effect of green tea on volatile sulfur compounds in mouth air.

Many food products are claimed to be effective in controlling halitosis. Halitosis is caused mainly by volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) such as H(2)S and CH(3)SH produced in the oral cavity. Oral microorganisms degrade proteinaceous substrates to cysteine and methionine, which are then converted to VSCs. Most treatments for halitosis focus on controlling the number of microorganisms in the oral cavity. Since tea polyphenols have been shown to have antimicrobial and deodorant effects, we have investigated whether green tea powder reduces VSCs in mouth air, and compared its effectiveness with th

Rosemary Extract Reduces Odor in Cats Through Nitrogen and Sulfur Metabolism by Gut Microbiota-Host Co-Modulation.

Odors from pet cats can negatively affect the quality of life of cat owners. The diverse bioactive compounds in plant extracts make them a promising candidate for effective odor reduction. This study evaluated twelve plant extracts for deodorizing efficacy via in vitro fermentation tests. Rosemary extract and licorice extract exhibited better deodorizing effects, with fractions of rosemary extract below 100 Da demonstrating the most effective deodorizing performance. Based on these findings, subsequent feeding trials were conducted using rosemary extract and its fractions below 100 Da. In the

iso 9-HODE and iso 13-HODE: Novel Markers of Thermal Processing in Vegetable Oils.

Two novel oxylipins, iso 13-HODE (13-hydroxy-8E,10Z-octadecadienoic acid) and iso 9-HODE (9-hydroxy-11Z,13E-octadecadienoic acid), formed during thermal processing of vegetable oils, are identified. iso HODEs are formed during deodorization through heat-induced [1,5]-sigmatropic rearrangement of Z,E 13-HODE and E,Z 9-HODE. Industrial refining increases the concentration of iso 13-HODE in sunflower oil from 65 to 150 nmol/g and in rapeseed oil from 5 to 26 nmol/g upon deodorization, while iso 9-HODE increases in sunflower oil from 14 to 65 nmol/g and in rapeseed oil from 2 to 11 nmol/g. Aerogels from copper (II)-cellulose nanofibers and carbon nanotubes as absorbents for the elimination of toxic gases from air.

A novel deodorizer that is capable of selectively eliminating the odorous chemicals, such as ammonia, trimethylamine, hydrogen sulfide and methyl mercaptan, is described. The deodorizer is a nanostructured aerogel by nature, consisting of 2,2-6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) oxidized cellulose nanofibrils (CNF), transition metal divalent cations (M2+), and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT) as the constitutive elements. CNF are firstly mixed with M2+ (M2+, in this paper, typifies Ni2+, Co2+ and Cu2+) to form CNF-M2+ complexes, monodispersed CNT is then mixed to prepare CNT/CNF-M2+ wat
