In this work, we propose novel epidemic models (named, susceptible-infected-recovered-susceptible-bacteria) for cholera dynamics by incorporating a general formulation of bacteria growth and spatial variation. A method for assessing lingual sensation is described, comprising sensory testing, using touch and moving two-point discrimination and patient subjective reporting. The clinical application is seen to be the evaluation of lingual nerve injury consequent upon lower third molar surgery. Using this method it is considered possible to identify many of those patients unlikely to make full spontaneous recovery at the stage of 3 months following injury, with a view to achieving an earlier timing of surgical repair than that which prevails at present.

To determine the contribution of the soft palate to the overall taste mechanism and the effects of palatal compromise (surgery, cleft palate, and trauma), four taste solutions representing sweet, salty, sour, and bitter were applied to the apex and base of the tongue and to the soft palate of 12 subjects in each of the control and palatally compromised groups. Using a general model of opinion dynamics, we conduct a systematic investigation of key mechanisms driving elite polarization in the United States. We demonstrate that the self-reinforcing nature of elite-level processes can explain this polarization, with voter preferences accounting for its asymmetric nature. To verify whether central threshold testing with a common automated perimeter could detect glaucomatous damage, we selected 40 eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma and 43 eyes of age-matched normal subjects.
