Ebstein anomaly is a rare congenital heart malformation typically involving the tricuspid valve and the right ventricle that has a wide range of anatomical and pathophysiological presentations. Various surgical repair techniques for Ebstein anomaly have been reported because of its near-infinite anatomical variability. Cone repair for Ebstein anomaly can achieve nearly anatomical reconstruction of the tricuspid valve with promising outcomes. In this article, the surgical techniques for cone repair in adult patients with Ebstein anomaly are described in detail, and clinical experiences and tech…

This study aimed to review our 30-year, single-center experience of neonates admitted with Ebstein anomaly. Between January 1985 and August 2015, 80 neonates with Ebstein anomaly were managed. The primary outcome measures were early and late survival, freedom from reoperation, and functional status. Pulmonary atresia or critical stenosis occurred in 18 neonates. Twenty-seven (34%) patients required intervention: 13 systemic-to-pulmonary shunts, 5 balloon pulmonary valvotomy, 3 relief of right ventricular outflow tract obstruction, 3 Starnes procedures, and 3 other procedures. Sixty-nine (86%) …

We report a case of a 7-year-old girl with atriofascicular Mahaim (AFM) pathway concomitant with Ebstein's anomaly. The QRS wave showed left bundle branch block pattern on electrocardiogram. Holter electrocardiogram showed prolongation of the PR interval and QRS morphological change during sinus tachycardia. An electrophysiological study demonstrated that the distal His potential appeared earlier than the proximal His potential, which suggested retrograde His conduction toward the atrioventricular node. Conduction from the Mahaim fiber to the His bundle was faster than that from the atrioventr

Objective Ebstein anomaly is a rare type of tricuspid malformation. The present surgical methods to resolve this anomaly include tricuspid valvuloplasty, palliative surgery, and tricuspid valve replacement. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the short- and midterm outcomes of different surgical treatments among children with Ebstein anomaly. Methods This was a retrospective study of 136 Ebstein anomaly patients undergoing surgery at our institution from January, 2006 to August, 2015. This cohort included 118 patients receiving tricuspid valvuloplasty, 14 patients receiving palliative su…

This is a case report of a patient with Trisomy 21 with Ebstein anomaly, a ventricular septal defect, and acquired pulmonary vein stenosis; a rare combination, diagnosed during a routine neonatal examination.

INTRODUCTION: The outcome of the operation of the Ebstein anomaly in adulthood depends on the experience of the surgical team.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We operated 38 adult patients with Ebstein anomaly at the age of 34.8 ± 12.7 (19-63) years at the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Hospital Na Homolce, Prague, in the period of 2005-2013. The majority of patients (71 %) had Ebstein anomaly type C or D. The 30-days postoperative mortality was 5.2 %. In the long-term follow-up 2 other patients died. Tricuspid valve repair was performed in 45 %, bioprosthesis was implanted in 53 %. Concomitant bi-direc…

Ebstein anomaly (EA) is a congenital defect of the tricuspid valve (TV) and the right ventricle (RV) in which the attachments of the septal and posterior valve leaflets are apically displaced. The latter creates 3 morphologic components inside the right heart, namely the right atrium proper, the atrialized RV, and the functional RV. This rare anomaly accounts for <1.5% of all congenital heart diseases. The current opinion among authors is that it is a genetically heterogeneous condition caused by failure of delamination of the TV leaflets from the underlying myocardium and the interventricular…

We report an unusual congenital cardiac anomaly consisting of a downward displacement of all leaflets of both atrio-ventricular valves. In addition to these changes, an atrial septal defect of the secundum type was noted. In light of the extreme rarity of this interesting anomaly complex, we reviewed the literature and compare the morphologic features of the present case with classic Ebstein's anomaly.

• Complete RV thrombus was observed in Ebstein anomaly while on aspirin therapy. • RV thrombus can result in myocardial infarction and lethal LV compression. • Standardized anticoagulation is limited in fenestrated RV exclusion physiology cases.

BACKGROUND: Ebstein anomaly (EA) is a rare congenital heart defect characterized by tricuspid valve malformation and severe tricuspid regurgitation. This poses challenges for conventional pacemaker implantation.
CASE SUMMARY: An 86-year-old man with EA, atrial fibrillation, complete atrioventricular block, and heart failure underwent Micra VR leadless pacemaker implantation. The right ventricular angiography was inadequate due to torrential tricuspid regurgitation, necessitating the use of advanced mapping technologies. CARTO electroanatomical mapping and CARTO UNIVU navigation systems facili…

Ebstein's anomaly was diagnosed in a fetus at 24 weeks of gestation. There was significant cardiomegaly and severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR). There was functional pulmonary atresia with severe pulmonary regurgitation (PR) and this was causing a circular shunt. There was no fetal hydrops.

Ebstein anomaly is a developmental abnormality of the tricuspid valve and right ventricle that results in tricuspid regurgitation and right heart enlargement. Because of the variation in clinical severity and associated findings, patients require a detailed, well-tailored evaluation. For these reasons, management of adults with Ebstein anomaly should take place in a center with expertise in adult congenital heart disease. In many patients, the decision regarding if and when to perform surgery remains controversial, largely because of a lack of published data demonstrating improved postoperativ…

Ebstein's anomaly is a congenital defect primarily due to a failed-development of the tricuspid valve. The defect affects significantly surrounding structures (conducting tissue, right atrium and ventricle), which often need concomitant correction. We have extended our techniques for the repair of conventional atrio-ventricular valve insufficiency to this specific pathology. The video sequences show the repair of a severe form of Ebstein's anomaly with extensive mobilisation of the displaced leaflets and creation of a subvalvular apparatus with artificial chordae. Because of the absence of arr

OBJECTIVE: Neonates with profound heart failure resulting from Ebstein anomaly have historically had poor outcomes. We report our institutional experience with the surgical management of Ebstein anomaly in severely symptomatic neonates.
METHODS: A retrospective review of all patients (n = 16) undergoing neonatal intervention for Ebstein anomaly between 1992 and 2005 has been carried out. The indications for operation were overt heart failure, cyanosis, and acidosis associated with tricuspid regurgitation, depressed right ventricular function, and severe cardiomegaly. The magnitude of cardiac …
