Resolution of dysarthria in multiple sclerosis by treatment with weak electromagnetic fields.

It has been reported that 50% or more of patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) exhibit speech impairment (dysarthria) which in some cases can be exceedingly disabling. Currently there is no effective medical treatment for the dysarthria of MS which occurs as a result of lesions to the cerebellum and its outflow tracts. It was reported recently that extracranial application of brief AC pulsed electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in the picotesla (pT) range intensity produced in patients with MS sustained improvement in motor functions including cerebellar symptomatology. This communication c

Optimal Frequency for Cranial Electromagnetic Field Stimulation.

Background Communication among neurons generates electromagnetic fields (EMFs) that can be measured through a noninvasive, portable helmet equipped with 20 sensors. The EMF data reveal a variety of EMF patterns that have yet to be elucidated. Understanding a propagated frequency from the brain and its subunits can assist with diagnosing the brain and its subunits' function and treatment. Here, the authors provide an interpretation of the EMF patterns with an emphasis on frequency. Methods From January 2025 to February 2025, a prospective clinical study was conducted to enroll patients greater

Electromagnetic Field as a Treatment for Cerebral Ischemic Stroke.

Cerebral stroke is a leading cause of death and adult-acquired disability worldwide. To this date, treatment options are limited; hence, the search for new therapeutic approaches continues. Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) affect a wide variety of biological processes and accumulating evidence shows their potential as a treatment for ischemic stroke. Based on their characteristics, they can be divided into stationary, pulsed, and sinusoidal EMF. The aim of this review is to provide an extensive literature overview ranging from in vitro to even clinical studies within the field of ischemic stroke

Electromagnetic field induced biological effects in humans.

Exposure to artificial radio frequency electromagnetic fields (EMFs) has increased significantly in recent decades. Therefore, there is a growing scientific and social interest in its influence on health, even upon exposure significantly below the applicable standards. The intensity of electromagnetic radiation in human environment is increasing and currently reaches astronomical levels that had never before experienced on our planet. The most influential process of EMF impact on living organisms, is its direct tissue penetration. The current established standards of exposure to EMFs in Poland

Determinants of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields emitted by smartphones in French cellular telephony networks.

Smartphones are a major source of radiofrequency electromagnetic field exposure, yet real-life determinants of uplink emissions remain poorly characterised. We conducted the first epidemiological study of smartphone cellular network uplink emissions in a general population sample, recruiting 167 volunteers across three French cities in 2022-2023. Emissions were measured quasi-continuously for a week during everyday activities using the novel DEVIN exposimeter, while the XMobiSensePlus application simultaneously recorded sensor values and smartphone activities in the background. Determinants of

Pulsed electromagnetic fields mediate sensory nerve regulation for bone formation in aging models.

Pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMFs) enhance bone formation to combat osteoporosis, yet the mechanisms by which they promote bone health during aging remain unclear. This study shows PEMFs enhance new bone formation and innervation, promoting osteogenesis and reducing adipogenesis in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in aging male mice. PEMF-induced osteogenesis is impaired by sensory nerve dysfunction in this model. Mechanistically, PEMFs stimulate sensory nerves to secrete semaphorin 3A (Sema3A), and depleting these nerves or knocking out Sema3a eliminates PEMFs' bone-forming effects. Sema3A in

Exposure to 5G-NR electromagnetic fields affects larval development of Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Telecommunication networks, including 5G New Radio (5G-NR), emit these fields and consequently expose many insects. To quantify the potential effect of RF-EMF exposure on insects, a study was designed examining the development of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, a major vector of dengue and other pathogens, as model organism exposed to RF-EMFs at 3.6 GHz. A custom exposure setup, a reverberation chamber, was designed, built, and characterized. Numerical simulations made it possible to calculate doses received by the larvae during the exposure. Larvae were reared on two feeding regimes, differing in

Pulsed electromagnetic fields attenuate human musculocutaneous nerve damage induced by biceps eccentric contractions.

Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy, a noninvasive treatment, has shown promise in mitigating nerve damage. However, unaccustomed exercises, such as eccentric contractions (ECCs), can damage both muscle and nerve tissue. This study investigated whether magnetic stimulation (MS) with PEMF could aid in nerve recovery after ECCs in the elbow flexors. Twenty participants were randomly assigned to either a control (CNT) or an MS group. Following ECCs, we measured the latency of the M-wave in the musculocutaneous nerve as an indicator of nerve function. Additionally, isometric torque, range

Occupational Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields-Different from General Public Exposure and Laboratory Studies.

The designs of in vivo, in vitro and in silico studies do not adequately reflect the characteristics of long-term occupational EMF exposure; the higher exposure levels permitted for employees are nevertheless extrapolated on this basis. Epidemiological studies consider occupational exposure only in a very general way, if at all. There is a lack of detailed descriptive data on long-term occupational exposure over the duration of the working life. Most studies reflect exposure characteristics of the general population, exposures which are long-term, but at a comparably low level. Occupational ex

Maternal proximity to extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields and risk of birth defects.

Causes of birth defects are unclear, and the association with electromagnetic fields is inconclusive. We assessed the relationship between residential proximity to extremely low frequency electromagnetic fields from power grids and risk of birth defects. We analyzed a population-based sample of 2,164,246 infants born in Quebec, Canada between 1989 and 2016. We geocoded the maternal residential postal code at delivery and computed the distance to the nearest high voltage electrical transmission line or transformer station. We used log-binomial regression to estimate risk ratios (RR) and 95% con

Effect of chronic exposure to cellular telephone electromagnetic fields on hearing in rats.

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of the electromagnetic field emitted by cellular telephones upon the inner ear of rats, using distortion product otoacoustic emissions. METHODS: Forty Wistar Albino rats were used. Twenty newborn and 20 adult rats were divided into two groups of 10, one to participate in the study and one as a control. The rats were exposed to the electromagnetic field for 6 hours per day, for 30 consecutive days. Before and after the 30 day exposure period, distortion product otoacoustic emissions were measured in each group and a signal-to-noise ratio calculated, which was la

Electromagnetic fields (EMF): do they play a role in children's environmental health (CEH)?

Possible adverse health effects of exposure to electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields (EMF), and especially the question of whether there exists a special vulnerability of children, have been a much discussed topic during the last two decades. Static fields produce health effects only in very rare and exceptional circumstances at extremely high field intensities. As for low-frequency EMF, the results of epidemiological research with respect to childhood leukaemia prompted the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in 2001 to classify these fields as "possibly carcinogenic to

Interaction of radio frequency electromagnetic fields and passive metallic implants--a brief review.

During the last decade, use of radio frequency (RF) applications like mobile phones and other wireless devices, has increased remarkably. This has triggered numerous studies related to possible health risks due to the exposure of RF electromagnetic (EM) fields. One safety aspect is the coupling of EM fields with active and passive implants in the human body. While interactions with active implants have been quite extensively researched, only a few studies have focused on passive implants. The present article reviews interaction mechanisms and studies of passive metallic, that is, conductive, i

Improvement in short-term visual memory by weak electromagnetic fields in Parkinson's disease.

Neuropsychological studies have demonstrated that Parkinson's disease (PD) is associated with various cognitive deficits ultimately leading in about 30% of patients to the development of dementia. These studies have demonstrated also a greater decrement of right hemispheric functions with visuospatial deficits occurring in up to 90% of PD patients. The Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure (ROCF) Test has been employed in the assessment of right hemispheric functions and particularly for the evaluation of visuoconstructive abilities and short-term visual memory. I have demonstrated recently that exter

Resolution of Lhermitte's sign in multiple sclerosis by treatment with weak electromagnetic fields.

Lhermitte's sign, the occurrence of an electrical sensation passing down the back to the legs on flexion of the neck is a common and characteristic feature of multiple sclerosis (MS) which is related to spinal cord lesions affecting the posterior columns and cervical nerve roots. The Lhermitte's sign, which has been reported to occur at some time in up to 25% of MS patients, is seldom painful but is often a cause of distress to the patient and usually a marker of increased disease activity. Treatment with extracranial picotesla range pulsed electromagnetic fields (EMFs) has been found efficaci

The effects of samarium-cobalt magnets and pulsed electromagnetic fields on tooth movement.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the application of either samarium cobalt magnets or pulsed electromagnetic fields could increase the rate and amount of orthodontic tooth movement observed in guinea pigs. In addition, the objective was to evaluate the effect of a magnetic field on bony physiology and metabolism and to monitor for possible systemic side effects. Fifteen grams of laterally directed orthodontic force were applied to move the maxillary central incisors of a sample of 18 young male Hartley guinea pigs divided into three groups: group 1, an orthodontic coil spring

Improvement in word-fluency performance in Parkinson's disease by administration of electromagnetic fields.

The association between degeneration of the nigrostriatal dopamine (DA) system and the motor manifestations of Parkinson's disease (PD) provided the impetus for the development of DA replacement therapy. However, clinical experience has demonstrated that DA-ergic drugs, while attenuating the motor symptoms of PD, have little or no consistent effect on the mental and cognitive symptoms of the disease which are thought to be related partly to degeneration of the meso-cortico-limbic DA system. Thus, failure of DA-ergic drugs to improve the mental and cognitive deficits of PD indicates that these

Evidence for an effect of ELF electromagnetic fields on human pineal gland function.

A study was carried out to determine possible effects of 60-Hz electromagnetic-field exposure on pineal gland function in humans. Overnight excretion of urinary 6-hydroxymelatonin sulfate (6-OHMS), a stable urinary metabolite of the pineal hormone melatonin, was used to assess pineal gland function in 42 volunteers who used standard (conventional) or modified continuous polymer wire (CPW) electric blankets for approximately 8 weeks. Volunteers using conventional electric blankets showed no variations in 6-OHMS excretion as either a group or individuals during the study period. Serving as their
