Any cutaneous cyst differentiating toward two or more pilosebaceous components is known as follicular hybrid cyst (FHC). A combination of epidermal and trichilemmal cyst is its most frequent example. Other combinations of pilosebaceous derivatives occur uncommonly as well. The histogenesis of this condition has been controversial. In this latest report, we describe an unusual FHC from the earlobe of a 19-year-old male, which expressed the cohabitation of epidermal cyst and steatocystoma. A sharp transition was noted between the two kinds of epithelial components.

Epidermal cysts are common skin lesions. They are usually seen in the chronic sun-exposed areas of the skin. They can get complicated by inflammation, infection, rupture, or malignancy. Epidermal cyst in the perineal region is rare. We report a case of an infected ruptured perineal epidermal cyst mimicking gluteal abscess. The patient was successfully treated by complete surgical excision. Histology revealed epidermal cyst with foreign body giant cell reaction and no evidence of malignancy.

Epidermal inclusion cysts (EIC) are common benign lesions of the skin, ovaries, and testicles. However, their occurrence in thyroid gland is rare. We reported a case in which a 57-year-old male patient with history of nontoxic uninodular goiter presented with dysphonia and dysphagia. The cytology of ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration of the thyroid nodule revealed epidermal cyst. Despite the benign presentation. The patient underwent lobectomy to relieve his clinical symptoms and the surgical pathology exam confirmed the diagnosis of benign thyroid cyst, consistent with EIC of the thyroi…

Epidermal cysts are common, benign, intradermal or subcutaneous, typically asymptomatic masses, ranging from 1 to 4 cm in size. They may occur anywhere in the body, with a predilection for the face, neck, and trunk. Transformation to squamous-cell carcinoma is rare. We present a case of a 61-year-old male patient with a large, growing mass in his posterior left gluteal region. Given the concern for a malignancy, he was referred to a surgical oncologist. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) without contrast was performed due to poor renal function and revealed a large cystic mass in the left glutea…

Scrotal calcinosis is a rare entity characterised by multiple calcified nodules in the scrotal skin. Various pathogenetic mechanisms have been postulated in the literature to explain the origin of these nodules; however, debate continues among variable opinions and evidence. We report two cases of scrotal calcinosis developing from an epidermoid cyst with demonstration of pathology at various stages, thereby suggesting calcification of epidermal cysts as an initiating event in the pathogenesis of the disease, at least in a few cases.

Vasospastic disorders affecting the lower extremities are unusual entities. Two cases of asymptomatic foot discoloration with lower extremity dependency are presented. In the first case, an elderly gentleman was admitted to the hospital with a contralateral foot infection. His physical exam revealed pulse examination within normal limits and his blood work failed to identify any known causes for vasospasm. His foot infection was successfully treated with sensitivity-directed antibiotics. The second case is that of a young man with a history of quadriplegia secondary to a remote diving accident

A 35-year-old male patient presented with a right upper eyelid mass with mechanical ptosis. The patient gave no history of trauma or surgery. On examination, there was a huge cystic mass fixed to the tarsal plate. Excisional biopsy with tarsectomy was done. Histopathology sections demonstrated a keratin-filled cyst arising from the tarsus. A thorough Pubmed search did not reveal an epidermal cyst of the tarsal plate of this size which was successfully managed. The incision was made in such a way that postoperative ptosis would be avoided. Excess skin was removed during the surgery.

Epidermal inclusion cyst is a benign cyst filled with keratin fibers, and its wall has nearly the same characteristics as the epidermis. It is commonly seen in the skin and has the tendency to slowly grow toward deeper epidermis parts and to cause cystic expansion. We report a 23-year-old woman who presented with right external otitis lasting for 2 months. The patient's complaints did not respond to treatment even after parenteral antibiotic therapy. Surgical exploration revealed epidermal inclusion cyst of the ear canal. This pathologic entity is discussed in the light of current literature.

The contents of epidermal cysts were used as a source of desquamated human keratinocytes uncontaminated by sebaceous, subcutaneous, or bacterial lipids. Lipids extracted with chloroform:methanol mixtures included six series of ceramides (41% of the total extractable lipid), cholesterol (27%), cholesteryl esters (10%), fatty acids (9%), cholesteryl sulfate (1.9%), a novel class of ceramide esters (3.8%), and a sterol diester (0.9%). Electron microscopy revealed that the lipids in the cyst contents existed as multiple intercellular lamellae, as in stratum corneum. One lamella, adjacent to the ho…
