In this study, the authors report the erythrocyte data of 129 in Abidjan. They are 0 to 29 days old and have a birthweight > or = 2.300 g. The rate of HB, HT and the red cell count increase to 10% during the 24 to 48 first hours of life and decrease there after. Schistocytes are fragments of red blood cells (RBCs) produced by extrinsic mechanical damage within the circulation. The detection of schistocytes is an important morphological clue to the diagnosis of thrombotic microangiopathic anemia (TMA). Reporting criteria between different laboratories, however, are not uniform, owing to variability of shape and nature of fragments, as well as subjectivity and heterogeneity in their morphological assessment. In mailed blood samples from 602 adult patients with beta-thalassaemia trait, a mean MCH value of 20.5 pg with a 2 s range of 17-24 pg was found. The relationship between erythrocyte insulin receptors and the reticulocytes were studied in a group with a varying degree of reticulocytosis. The maximal I-insulin binding to erythrocytes varied between 6% and 37% and it showed a highly significant positive correlation with the reticulocyte count (r=0.85). The highest binding was found in a patient with hereditary spherocytosis and very active hematopoiesis (312 x 10(9) reticulocytes per litre). BACKGROUND: Tigecycline is the first available drug of glycylcycline family. Because of recent introduction, some of its adverse effects could be still unexplored.
OBSERVATION: We report the cases of 2 boys who underwent an allogenic bone marrow transplantation for acute myeloid leukemia and were treated with tigecycline. Erythrocyte and platelet engraftment followed a normal course, but the neutrophil count remained low despite the increase in leukocyte count. After tigecycline interruption, the neutrophil count rapidly raised in both cases.

Sixteen patients, each receiving 100 mg of dapsone per day, were studied for evidence of hemolysis. Vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopherol acetate), 800 mg/day, was then administered for up to three months, and dapsone therapy was continued at the same dose.
