We investigated the potential of arginine to reverse pathological changes in alcohol-induced liver injury. Four groups (six rats/group) of male Wistar rats were fed a fish oil-ethanol diet for 6 (group 2) or 8 (group 1) weeks. The effect of cyamemazine a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist on voluntary ethanol consumption in rats and on ethanol withdrawal in mice was examined. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were tested in a free choice (water and 10% ethanol) experiment and consumed 5 g/kg ethanol daily. Rats were treated daily IP with cyamemazine (0.5, 1, or 2 mg/kg) or acamprosate (100 mg/kg) during 2 weeks. OBJECTIVE: To determine the association of ethanol intoxication with hypoglycemia in ED patients.
METHODS: Retrospective, laboratory log review of 953 consecutive patients who were evaluated for ethanol intoxication in an urban university hospital ED over a three-month period. OBJECTIVES: Results of in vitro and animal studies suggest that ethanol enhances cocaine toxicity. If so, then that this implies that in ethanol users, postmortem blood cocaine concentrations should be lower, or anatomic evidence demonstrable.
