The Use of Kinematic Features in Evaluating Upper Limb Motor Function Learning Progress Based on Machine Learning.

Evaluating progress throughout a patient's rehabilitation process helps choose effective treatment and formulate personalised and evidence-based rehabilitation interventions. The evaluation process is difficult due to the limitations of current clinical assessments. They lack the ability to reflect sensitive changes continuously throughout the rehabilitation process. Kinematic features have been extracted from individual's movement to address this problem due to their sensitivity and continuity. However, choosing appropriate kinematic features for rehabilitation evaluation has always been chal

Enhancing Arabica and Robusta coffee prices forecasting through machine learning approaches.

Machine learning was applied to predict Arabica and Robusta coffee prices 2-6 months ahead using climatic, production, and economic data from 2009 to 2025. SHAP analysis revealed that global and Brazilian stock levels, Vietnamese drought, Colombian rainfall, and U.S. dollar exchange rate were the most influential drivers of price variation, showing that even features with weak simple correlations can have high predictive power. We compared Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Extreme Learning Machine (ELM), Random Forest (RF), XGBoost, and two stacking configurations (RF/XGBoost/ELM) and (RF/XGBoost),

An active machine learning framework for automatic boxing punch recognition and classification using upper limb kinematics.

Boxing punch type classification and kinematic analysis are essential for coaches and athletes, providing critical insights into punch variety and effectiveness, which are vital for performance improvement. Existing methods for punch recognition and classification typically rely on wearable sensor data or video data; however, no fully automated system currently exists. While coaches prefer video-based analysis for its ability to easily visualize punch action errors and refine technique, video-based classification suffers from lower accuracy compared to sensor-based methods due to limitations s

Muscle force estimation from lower limb EMG signals using novel optimised machine learning techniques.

The main objective of this work is to establish a framework for processing and evaluating the lower limb electromyography (EMG) signals ready to be fed to a rehabilitation robot. We design and build a knee rehabilitation robot that works with surface EMG (sEMG) signals. In our device, the muscle forces are estimated from sEMG signals using several machine learning techniques, i.e. support vector machine (SVM), support vector regression (SVR) and random forest (RF). In order to improve the estimation accuracy, we devise genetic algorithm (GA) for parameter optimisation and feature extraction wi

Predicting online motor learning after stroke in lower limb task using machine learning.

Online motor learning is central to effective learning and a crucial determinant of functional recovery after stroke. Despite its clinical significance, predictors of online motor learning remain understudied. Machine Learning (ML) offers a data-driven approach to identify predictors of online motor learning that would otherwise be limited using traditional statistical approaches, such as logistic regression. This study leveraged ML to determine key predictors and their relative importance in online motor learning after stroke. One hundred and seven stroke survivors completed assessments of so

Preliminary Assessment of Two Simultaneous and Proportional Myocontrol Methods for 3-DoFs Prostheses Using Incremental Learning.

Despite progressive developments over the last decades, current upper limb prostheses still lack a suitable control able to fully restore the functionalities of the lost arm. Traditional control approaches for prostheses fail when simultaneously actuating multiple Degrees of Freedom (DoFs), thus limiting their usability in daily-life scenarios. Machine learning, on the one hand, offers a solution to this issue through a promising approach for decoding user intentions but fails when input signals change. Incremental learning, on the other hand, reduces sources of error by quickly updating the m

Temporal interference stimulation of peripheral nerves induces functionally diverse limb movements revealed by automated pose estimation and unsupervised behavioral analysis.

Peripheral nerve stimulation can help restore limb movement after paralysis and enable advanced rehabilitation technologies; however, current extraneural interfaces are typically limited by low fascicle selectivity and laborious functional evaluation. This study has developed an extraneural peripheral nerve interface with high fascicle selectivity, and an AI-facilitated video analysis pipeline for assessing limb movement during neuromodulation. This was achieved by deploying temporal interference stimulation (TIS) in a high-density nerve cuff electrode and by using machine learning algorithms

Integrating Machine Learning Approaches and Topological Indices for Prediction of Electronic Properties in Anticancer Drugs.

In this study, machine learning was used to predict electronic properties of anticancer drugs using molecular descriptors. Four machine learning models were employed to understand and predict the relationship between molecular structure and properties of the molecules. The results showed that extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) gave good prediction performance in handling complex and nonlinear patterns in the data. In all cases, the feature importance analysis showed a consistent ranking. It shows how molecular descriptors had an influence on property prediction. This study shows how molecular
