PURPOSE: Primary fallopian tube carcinoma (PFTC) is a rare tumor that histologically and clinically resembles epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). The purpose of this study is to review the current available literature data on PFTC.
PATIENTS AND RESULTS: Early clinical manifestation and prompt investigation often lead to diagnosis at an early stage of disease. However, the diagnosis of PFTC is rarely considered preoperatively and is usually first appreciated by the pathologist. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate and compare the diagnostic value of hysterosalpingography (HSG) and laparoscopic chromopertubation (LCP), in the diagnosis of fallopian tube patency.
DESIGN: A comparative prospective study.
SETTING: The infertility clinic of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ga-Rankuwa hospital (Medical University of Southern Africa), Pretoria, South Africa.
SUBJECTS: Fifty patients were initially diagnosed with either unilateral or bilateral tubal block using HSG. Six to eight weeks later the same women were subjected to LCP to assess tubal patency.

Extraskeletal chondroma can occur in the hands, feet, head and neck. This tumor usually presents as a small solitary nodule. The histogenesis of the tumor is controversial, but some have suggested a metaplastic origin. Chondroma of the fallopian tube is very rare. There is only one report in English literature. Advances in fiberoptic technology make it possible to evaluate the tubal lumen endoscopically. Two basic procedures are salpingoscopy and falloposcopy. The former is a transfimbrial approach allowing visualization from the ampullary-isthmic junction to the fimbriae. The latter is a transcervical approach allowing assessment of the tubal lumen from the uterotubal ostium to the fimbriae. Both may be performed without general anesthesia. Although Fallopian tubes are frequently involved in benign gynaecological conditions, primary malignant involvement is rare, and because of its rarity, lack of diagnostic accuracy, nonpresenting symptoms and physical findings, primary fallopian tube carcinoma is seldom diagnosed before laparotomy. We are reporting one such rare case.

Infertility is an increasingly common problem. Occlusion of the fallopian tubes is one of the principal causes, and until recently surgery was the only available treatment. The success rate of surgery is often low, particularly with occlusion of the proximal tube. Selective fallopian tube canalization under fluoroscopic guidance has been successful in alleviating proximal tubal obstruction. This procedure may be performed in the outpatient setting and is a safe, cost-effective alternative to surgery.
