The effects of the histamine H2-receptor antagonists ranitidine and famotidine on acetylcholine release have been studied in the guinea pig myenteric plexus longitudinal muscle preparation incubated with [3H]-choline. Ranitidine (3 x 10(-5)-3 x 10(-4) M) dose-dependently increased the resting release of acetylcholine and that evoked by electrical stimulation. The effects of three histamine H2-receptor antagonists on the antipyrine metabolizing capacity of the liver were studied in 32 patients with gastrointestinal disorders and in three healthy volunteers. The drugs studied were 800 mg and 400 mg of cimetidine, 300 mg of ranitidine, and 40 mg of famotidine daily. Only cimetidine at 800 mg/day inhibited hepatic antipyrine metabolism, and the inhibitory effects disappeared rapidly with no accumulation.

Despite extensive interest in green silver nanoparticles, translating them into selective nanomedicines with minimal off-target toxicity remains a major challenge. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effect and security of Jinghua Weikang Capsule (JWC) and famotidine in treating duodenal ulcer.
METHODS: Two hundred patients with duodenal ulcer were randomly divided into the treated group treated with JWC, 160 mg 3 times per day and the control group treated with famotidine 20 mg twice per day, both by orally taking before meal for 4 weeks, 100 cases in each group. Six healthy volunteer medical students (three men and three women) on four separate occasions drank 500 ml of beer or 250 ml of white wine 30 min after having taken 40 mg of famotidine or a placebo (after 48 hours of abstinence and six hours of fasting). Administration of drug or placebo followed a double-blind, randomized protocol.
