INTRODUCTION: Chondromyxoid fibroma (CMF) is a rare benign tumor, typically occurring in the metaphysis of long bones. Involvement of craniofacial bones is extremely unusual. The histologic diagnosis of this tumor is difficult because of its similarities to chondrosarcoma. Preferably, chondromyxoid fibroma is treated by complete local excision. Recurrences, or soft tissue implants, may follow incomplete curettage.
AIM OF STUDY: Presentation of the case of 51-year-old woman who presented with a CFM of the nasal septum with extension into the maxillary and sphenoid sinuses. In addition, a liter…

Juvenile ossifying fibroma is a benign lesion with aggressive local growth. It is similar to an ossifying fibroma, although it is more aggressive and of earlier onset. Some cases of ossifying fibroma are part of a syndrome that includes hyperparathyroidism (caused by adenoma or carcinoma) and renal lesions, possibly caused by a recently discovered genetic mutation. These tumours must be treated by radical excision, to prevent recurrence. We report a case of recurrent juvenile ossifying fibroma, in an 18-year-old girl. The treatment was radical en-bloc resection, which was reconstructed at the …

BACKGROUND: It is rare to see large vulvar growths that are not trauma related in young women. The largest vulvar mass recorded dates back to 1851. Fibroma of the vulva is not common but, if not seen early and removed, can be emotionally draining for the patient.
CASE: A large vulvar mass was found in an 18-year-old woman and was expeditiously excised. The patient was emotionally withdrawn and would not participate in any school or social activities. She would carry moist paper towels with her to prevent maceration of the lower abdomen and lesion wall.
CONCLUSION: An extraordinary physical f…

OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical presentation of ossifying fibroma of the temporal bone, and to discuss its diagnosis and treatment.
METHOD: A rare case of ossifying fibroma of the temporal bone was presented. The patient was a 8-year-old boy with a one year history of left ear discomfort, suppurative otorrhea and progressive hearing loss. Physical examination of the ear revealed a stenosis of left external auditory canal (EAC), and an obvious expansion at mastoid region. Audiometry showed no hearing of the left ear. A postauricular approach was used to expose the mass. Frozen section eval…

CASE REPORT: A 1-year-old girl presented with a 10-month history of progressive protuberance of the left frontal skull. Magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography demonstrated a large osteolytic interosseous mass extending to the frontal sinus and temporal base without any intracranial invasion. A fronto-temporo-parietal craniectomy of the outer skull table and excision of an interosseous tumor resulted in local dural exposure in the temporal area that was covered by cranioplasty. Pathological examination identified desmoplastic fibroma (DF) of the skull. The patient's cranial asymmetr…

An adult man with systemic mastocytosis developed multiple fibromas within his involved skin, predominantly in the intertriginous areas. Friction in the intertriginous areas and scratching due to severe itch may have induced the release of mast cell factors which subsequently resulted in fibroma formation.

We present a 16 year-old girl who suffered since one year of a painless slow growing mass on the left medial orbital rim causing globe displacement. CT-scan and MRI of the orbit with T1 and T2 weighted images showed the presence of a large mucocoele in the frontal sinus. This occurred secondary to the obstruction of the sinonasal tract by a bony tumour. Histopathology showed a lesion consisting of fibrous tissue and ossicles or psammomatoid bodies. The diagnosis of a psammomatoid ossifying fibroma (POF) was made.

Chondromyxoid fibroma is a rare benign tumor that is typically found in the metaphyseal ends of long tubular bones, such as the tibia. The authors describe a case of this neoplasm occurring in the foot. Treatment included complete resection with reconstruction using an autogenous fibular bone graft. The surgical technique and the advantages of using a fibular bone graft are discussed.

A bulky tumor of the first lumbar vertebra is described. The case is the 21st to be reported. The tumor resembled an aneurysmal bone cyst radiologically. It was resected without incident. The previously reported cases are reviewed and the literature discussed.

The recent published journal reports concerning the influence of uterine myomas on pregnancy are reviewed. The prevalence of uterine myomas in pregnancy is 0.1-5%, and less than half of the cases can be diagnosed by clinical investigation alone. The previous belief that continuous growth of myomas occurs during pregnancy seems incorrect. Most myomas grow during the first trimester, whereafter only few continue to enlarge. The most often recognized complication during pregnancies with uterine myomas is abdominal pain. About ten percent will suffer from this. Treatment is with non-steroidal anti

A 23-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of a soft, painful mass in the right parietal region for a month. Neurological exam … atypical cellular features was seen. These findings were compatible with the diagnosis of ossifying fibroma. The postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was discharged in a good condition. There was no evidence of local recurrence 10 months later. Ossifying fibroma is a rare, benign bone tumor that mainly involves the craniofacial bone. The di …

The author describes the characteristics of vaginal fibromas, as observed in one personal case and after a rview of the published literature. These tumors, which affect women during the period of genital activity, are not of frequent occurrence, and the principal signs are dyspareunia and metrorrhagia. The histological appearance of the tumours is very similar to that of uterine fibromas, but their pathogenicity appears to be different, and they progress in a similar manner to that of benign tumors. Because of the existence of a cleavage line they can be easily enucleated, the main therapeutic…

Cemento-ossifying fibroma presents with ophthalmic symptoms and signs rarely. We report the clinical and pathological findings in a case of cemento-ossifying fibroma of the right maxilla with extension into the orbital floor causing intermittent vertical diplopia, proptosis, and upward displacement of the globe. Compression of the nasolacrimal duct produced epiphora early in the course of the disease. Fibrous dysplasia has often been diagnosed in other cases of benign monostotic fibro-osseous conditions. Ossifying fibroma is easily confused with fibrous dysplasia. The histopathological differe…
