Acropustulosis of infancy.

Acropustulosis of infancy is a syndrome characterized by recurrent pruritic acral vesicopustules. It occurs primarily in black male infants and hitherto has been described mainly in the North American literature. We describe four cases seen in London. This entity, therefore, should be recognized in the U.K., particularly in the differential diagnosis of infantile scabies.

[Mycetoma pedis (Madura foot)].

Mycetoma pedis or Madura foot is rare in central Europe but has a wide distribution in the tropics. In roentgendiagnostic there are a destruction of the cortical margin and lytic zones in the spongiosa. Older bone manifestations show sclerosis. Periosteal reaction provokes spicules and only seldom "onion peel" patterns.

Abnormal biomechanics of feet and their cause of hyperkeratoses.

A brief review of pedal anatomy and the mechanisms enabling feet to function as organs of locomotion is presented. The importance of the subtalar joint is emphasized. Four major abnormalities disturbing normal foot function are noted, and the most commonly encountered of these alterations, rearfoot varus, is discussed in some detail. A series of pedal abnormalities in rearfoot varus occurs because in the foot's attempt to overcome its imbalance, it pronates excessively and causes development of callus, corn, hallux valgus, and even ingrown toenail. Haglund's deformity, soft corn, and tailor's

Nail avulsion: indications and methods (surgical nail avulsion).

The nail is a subject of global importance for dermatologists, podiatrists and surgeons. Nail avulsion is a frequently undertaken, yet simple, intriguing procedure. It may either be surgical or chemical, using 40% urea. The former is most often undertaken using the distal approach. Nail avulsion may either be useful for diagnostic purposes like exploration of the nail bed, nail matrix and the nail folds and before contemplating a biopsy on the nail bed or for therapeutic purposes like onychocryptosis, warts, onychomycosis, chronic paronychia, nail tumors, matricectomy and retronychia. The proc

[Perforating milia-like idiopathic calcinosis of the extremities in Down syndrome].

INTRODUCTION: Several skin diseases can be seen in patients with trisomy 21. We report a case of miliary calcinosis of the extremities. CASE REPORT: A 15-year old adolescent with Down's syndrome presented small papular miliary lesions which had developed over 18 months and tended to discharge a chalk-like substance via the epidermis. Approximately 15 lesions were present on the hands and feet. Histologically, there was a well-delimited calcium deposit in the superficial dermis. There was no alteration in phosphorus/calcium metabolism. Brain CT-scan and cardiac echography did not reveal any ca

[Chromomycosis: 2 cases].

We report two cases of chromomycosis due to Fonsecaea pedrosoi and Cladosporium herbarum, observed in two women from the Tlemcen region. Due to the wart-like or nodular lesions, these case were mistaken for other skin diseases with similar manifestations, particularly verrucous tuberculosis and cutaneous leishmaniasis. The histology revealed fumagoid bodies leading to the identification of the causative agents. Chromomycosis is rare in Algeria although 3 cases have been observed in our area since 1989. The physician should be aware of this diagnosis.
