BACKGROUND: Quantifying the burden of parasitic diseases in relation to other diseases and injuries requires reliable estimates of prevalence for each disease and an analytic framework within which to estimate attributable morbidity and mortality. Previous studies of anemia epidemiology have been geographically limited with little detail about severity or etiology. Using publicly available data, we estimated mild, moderate, and severe anemia from 1990 to 2010 for 187 countries, both sexes, and 20 age groups. OBJECTIVES: To determine the histologic types of testicular tumors and identify associated risk factors.
METHODS: Data on clinical presentation, age, race, history of cryptorchidism or testicular trauma and histologic types, on each patient with testis tumor, were abstracted from medical records and the pathology register.
RESULTS: Of 14 tumors, 11 were malignant. Five were Burkitt's and 2 non-Burkitt's lymphomas, 1 plasmocytoma and 3 seminomas. None of the seminomas occurred in black Africans.

High concentrations of arsenic were determined in sediments from the Kouhsorkh area, Khorasan province, NE Iran. The main rock formations in the area consist of Tertiary volcanic rocks as Tuffaceous sandstone, polymictic conglomerate and andesite. Furthermore, some As-Sb-Au mineralization occurred in this area. Concentrations of arsenic in sediments were determined to range between 4.2 and 268.2 ppm, exceeding US EPA (2004) limits. PURPOSE: Psychological distress among cancer patients is linked to adverse outcomes. The enhanced Distress Thermometer (eDT) allows patients to self-report distress levels on a Likert scale (0-10) and select from a list of physical, emotional, family, and psychological problems contributing to their distress. The physical problem list includes symptoms and functional impairments. Little is known about the predictive validity of the eDT physical problem list. This study aims to evaluate predictors of risk associated with distress scores measured by the eDT among patients with physical problems.
