Trichosporonosis is an uncommon but frequently fatal mycosis in immunocompromised patients. A multicenter retrospective study was conducted to characterize cases of proven or probable invasive trichosporonosis diagnosed over the past 20 years in Italian patients with hematological diseases. Emerging fungal pathogens, such as Geotrichum capitatum, are often associated with poor prognosis and represent a new challenge in modern medicine. A rare case of Geotrichum spp. dermatitis in a horse is presented. After unrelated, previous surgery and antibiotic treatment, a saddle horse showed well-circumscribed areas of non-pruritic alopecia. The human gut microbiome comprises bacteria, viruses, and fungi, yet the fungal component (mycobiome) remains poorly characterized. Here, we investigated gut fungal composition and fungal-bacterial interactions in healthy monozygotic and dizygotic twins. A case of the mycotic bezoar in the female patient with gastric hypersecretion is reported. The symptoms of the high intestinal obstruction accompanied underlying disease. An 80 year old farmer had cutaneous chromomycosis on the lateral aspect of right foot. He had associated pulmonary pathology caused by another fungus Geotrichum candidum simulating miliary tuberculosis. The paper is an overview of etiological factors, clinical manifestations, diagnostics and treatment of genital tract infections. Infections caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, fungi Candida, Saccharomyces and Geotrichum are discussed as well as syphilis, gonorrhea and infections with Chlamydia, mycoplasms and ureaplasms. A male garter snake (Thamnophis) from a private terrarium was spontaneously and simultaneously infected with Chrysosporium queenslandicum and Geotrichum candidum. The autopsy revealed disseminated mycotic alterations in skin, lungs and liver. Chrysosporium queenslandicum grew well at 28 degrees C, the optimal temperature of the animal. This is the first description of a Chrysosporium queenslandicum infection in a garter snake.

Disseminated geotrichosis was diagnosed at necropsy of 2 unrelated dogs from the same household. Clinical signs of disease included fever, coughing, anorexia, listlessness, polydipsia, and dyspnea. The duration of clinical illness was less than 2 weeks. Pathologic findings in both dogs were similar and consisted of pyogranulomatous pneumonia, hepatitis, and nephritis. Geotrichum candidum was identified by fluorescent antibody technique.

A case of an epidemic by Tinea cruris and Tinea pedis in a tyre factory in Sicily is reported. There was noticeable spread of the causative agents throughout the environment. They were mainly transmitted by wash-basins in the footbaths, by footboards of showers and in smaller numbers by towels. Trichosporon beigelii was the most common fungus isolated from the environment, followed by Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, Candida parapsilosis and Geotrichum candidum.
