Gingival recession in 15-year old pupils.

In a clinical examination of 174 15-year old pupils approximately 62 per cent showed some degree of gingival recession on the labial surfaces of maxillary teeth. The number of affected teeth per individual was low, one tooth in about 35 per cent and teeth in 25 per cent of the individuals. First molars and first premolars were the teeth most often affected. The majority of the defects were not extensive, i.e. the gingival margin was situated at the cemento-enamel junction. The number of cases affected by recession was lower in individuals using an "unspecific" toothbrushing technique compared …

[The relationship of gingival insertion and inflammation with gingival recession in children].

Paper presents a study on 115 children, aged 5 to 15, to determine existing relationship between degree of inflammation and amount of gum insertion, with gingival recession. The study included true and false recession.

Gingival recession is likely associated with tongue piercings.

SUBJECTS: A convenience sample of 60 subjects (27 male; 33 female) with tongue piercings (case group) and 120 subjects (43 male; 77 female) … y). The analysis compared periodontal parameters, such as the occurrence, location, and severity of gingival recession, in subjects with and without tongue jewelry. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Gingival recession in the anterior lingual mandibular region was assessed as the primary outcome measure. The study sample was divided according to the presence or absence of gingi …

Surgical management of gingival recession: A clinical update.

Gingival recession is defined as the apical migration of the junctional epithelium with exposure of root surfaces. It is a common condition seen in both dentally aware populations and those with limited access to dental care. The etiology of the condition is multifactorial but is commonly associated with underlying alveolar morphology, tooth brushing, mechanical trauma and periodontal disease. Given the high rate of gingival recession defects among the general population, it is imperative that dental practitioners have an understanding of the etiology, complications and the management of the c…

Gingival recession treatment using a bilayer collagen membrane.

Traditional periodontal plastic surgery techniques for the management of gingival recession have typically used soft tissue grafts to obtain defect coverage with great clinical success. Clinicians using guided tissue regeneration (GTR) techniques are also enjoying significant success in periodontal plastic surgery procedures. GTR therapy utilizing bioabsorbable membranes offers the advantages of preventing a donor site surgery and a second surgical procedure for barrier removal. A new bioabsorbable bilayer collagen membrane that readily adapts to bone and tooth surfaces by a gel formation of c…

[Progressive gingival recession: a 2-stage surgical technic].

A technique for treating gingival recession which provides a means of achieving two objectives, interrupting the disease process and aesthetic covering of the exposed root, are described. A two step procedure is used: 1) a free submarginal gingival graft is positioned high enough to attach the gum, 2) the exposed root is covered with a bipediculated crown flap. A biological glue was used instead of suture after preparing the root surface with citric acid.

[Clinical research on the etiopathology of gingival recession].

Frequency severity of gingival recessions was studied with Stahl and Morris indices. The results showed that the localization of gingival recession was more important on the mandible (37%) than on the maxillary (27.6%) it, also demonstrated the importance of various etiologies and particularly the association of trauma - tooth malposition (81%).

Improvement potential of isolated gingival recession in children.

Eighteen cases showing gingival recession of one mandibular central incisor at a mean age of 9.4 years were recalled 3.9 to 20 years (mean 10.2 years) later. No specific measures had been directed towards the defect except in one case. The gingival status of affected teeth was compared to unaffected adjacent central incisors on an intra-individual basis. No significant difference between groups of affected and control teeth could be shown at the follow-up examination with regard to marginal gingiva level, sulcus depth, bleeding, width of keratinized or attached gingiva, nor in alveolar bone he…
