Effectiveness of palonosetron versus granisetron in preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) commonly occurs after chemotherapy, adversely affecting patients' quality of life. Recently, studies have shown inconsistent antiemetic effects of two common 5-hydroxytryptamine 3 receptor antagonists, namely, palonosetron and granisetron. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of palonosetron versus granisetron in preventing CINV. METHODS: Relevant studies were obtained from PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases. The primary outcome was the complete response (CR) rate. Secondary outcomes were headache an…

Comparison between the antiemetic effects of palonosetron and granisetron in breast cancer patients treated with anthracycline-based regimens.

Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting is a serious adverse side-effect of anthracycline-based chemotherapy regimens, in patients with breast cancer. A combination of three drugs, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT3) receptor antagonist, aprepitant and dexamethasone, is recommended for antiemetic therapy. Palonosetron (PALO), a novel 5-HT3 receptor antagonist has been identified to be effective against delayed nausea and vomiting. In this study, the results of PALO for patients who received anthracycline-based chemotherapy were compared with that of granisetron (GRA) using a crossover study design. T…

Green TLC-densitometric method for determination of cytarabine and granisetron in spiked human plasma: optimization and whiteness assessment.

Cytarabine (CYT) is a cornerstone in the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and is often co-administered with granisetron (GRS) to manage chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). A precise and sensitive thin-layer chromatographic (TLC) method was developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of CYT and GRS in spiked human plasma samples. Chromatographic separation was achieved by using a developing system consisting of ethyl acetate, ethanol, and ammonia (3:6.8:0.2, by volume), and detection was performed at 240 nm. The method exhibited linearity over the concentrat…
