BACKGROUND: Gastrointestinal parasites associated with small wild rodents in Colombia remain poorly understood.
AIM: This study aimed to identify the intestinal helminths of Reithrodontomys mexicanus, a common wild rodent species, in rural areas of Medellín, Colombia.
METHODS: Between June and December 2022, 31 individuals were captured and sex-classified. Fecal samples underwent flotation and sedimentation analysis.

Helminths are reported for the first time from ermines (Mustela erminea) and martens (Martes americana) in Washington (USA). Among 22 adult ermines, 41% were infected by one or more of five species (Taenia mustelae, Alaria mustelae, Molineus patens, M. mustelae and Trichinella spiralis). Distribution of Leptorhynchoides thecatus (Acanthocephala: Rhadinorhynchidae) among the pyloric caeca and the relationship between site and rate of maturation were studied in laboratory infections of 10, 25 and 40 cystacanths fed to green sunfish, Lepomis cyanellus. Forty cats, each harboring 2 or 3 parasitic infections (Ancylostoma tubaeforme, Toxocara cati, and/or Taenia taeniaeformis), were used to titrate the anthelmintic efficacy of a paste containing 3.4% febantel and 0.34% praziquantel. The cats were allotted into 4 groups (10 cats/group). Hybridizing populations of mule (Odocoileus hemionus) and white-tailed deer (O. virginianus) from the Davis Mountains of Texas were examined to determine similarities in species composition of their helminth communities and if abundances of helminth species in those communities varied across host species and seasonal factors. An abattoir survey on gastrointestinal parasites of the dromedary (Camelus dromedarius) was carried out in March/April 1987 in northern Mali. Parasitological examination of the digestive tract contents of 11 dromedaries revealed that Haemonchus longistipes was the predominant parasite with a prevalence as high as 85.7%. The genera Impalaia, Trichostrongylus, Cooperia, and Oesophagostomum were also recovered, but with a lower level of infection and frequency. The larval stage of the canine cestode Echinococcus granulosus was recorded in a single instance.
