CASE SUMMARY: A 2-year-old neutered male Basset Hound mix was presented for an accidental overdose of meloxicam of up to 5.5 mg/kg. The dog was asymptomatic on presentation with mild azotemia. This study aims to determine therapeutic effect of hemoperfusion on patients with acute toxic encephalopathy induced by silkworm chrysalis ingestion. Sepsis involves a complex interaction between bacterial toxins and the host immune system. Endotoxin, a component of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, is involved in the pathogenesis of sepsis producing proinflammatory cytokines and activating the complement system, and is thus an ideal potential therapeutic target.
