The diverticulum of the sigmoid colon is relatively common in the gastrointestinal tract, with the majority of cases being asymptomatic. A non-traumatic hemoperitoneum secondary to colonic diverticulum is very rare. Here, we report the case of a 35-year-old woman with hemoperitoneum caused by the bleeding of the serosal vessel of the sigmoid colon diverticulum. The bleeding focus was identified and ligated, and the diverticulum was invaginated laparoscopically. No blood vessel malformation was detected.

Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitides often cause small-vessel vasculitis, usually involving the kidney. Involvement of other organ systems and medium to large arteries is recognized, but free-vessel rupture is rare. A case of a man with classic renal involvement caused by microscopic polyangiitis associated with multiple episodes of hemoperitoneum secondary to splanchnic vasculitis is described. Although his renal vasculitis responded to conventional immunosuppressive treatment, relentless progression of splanchnic vasculitis ultimately proved fatal.

Uterine rupture, a potentially catastrophic complication during pregnancy, has been reported to occur spontaneously in the second and third trimesters. We describe a case of spontaneous uterine rupture at 8 weeks' gestation in a 29-year-old woman, who has a history of systemic lupus erythematosus. This article reports sonographic characteristics of a ruptured corpus luteum with hemoperitoneum in 44 cases. Sonographic findings were classified and compared with laparotomy and pathology. From sonographic imaging, it was found that the ruptured corpus luteum cyst was pathognomonic. There was a good correlation between ultrasound findings and surgical results when bleeding was over 100 ml. The sonographic value in diagnosis of ruptured corpus luteum with hemoperitoneum is discussed in detail.

Gastric volvulus is an abnormal, potentially life-threatening, torsion of the stomach. The presence of complications such as hemoperitoneum increases the diagnostic urgency; however it can also mask the presentation of gastric volvulus. We present the case of a 70-year-old patient admitted with strong abdominal pains and operated in our service for hemorrhagic acute abdomen. Intraoperative hepatic cavernous hemangioma was found with capsular rupture and hemoperitoneum. Due to liver cirrhosis, and no proper technical equipment we chose to perform simple hemostasis. Postoperative evolution was favorable.

We report a case of fatal intra-abdominal bleeding in a term newborn delivered by vacuum extractor and Kristeller manouvre. Although autopsy was not performed in compliance with the parents' wishes, there is strong evidence of a massive abdominal haemorrhage due to injuries of the hypochondriac organs probably leading to disconnection of a vascular pedicle.

Hemoperitoneum after cardiac surgery is a very rare but life-threatening complication. We have only found a few cases described in the literature, in which the intra-abdominal hemorrhages were caused by liver bleeding, due to direct hepatic trauma or spontaneous hepatic rupture. We describe the first case of hemoperitoneum caused by a spontaneous rupture of the spleen.

Traditional inguinal herniorrhaphy continues to be one of the most common surgeries performed in the USA today. Personal experience in a case of ovarian cystoma (misunderstood to the patient herself) broken consequently to a car trauma and cause of an intracystic angiorrhagy and hemoperitoneum is presented. The advantages of videolaparoscopic technique both for the diagnosis formulation and for the surgical treatment are underlined and the use of this new technique is suggested due to its advantages such as quickness, mini-invasiveness and post-operation comfort.
