Radiofrequency Ablation for Movement Disorders: Risk Factors for Intracerebral Hemorrhage, a Retrospective Analysis.

BACKGROUND: One of the greatest concerns associated with radiofrequency ablation is intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). However, the majority of previous studies have mainly evaluated Parkinson disease patients with ablation of the globus pallidus internus (GPi). OBJECTIVE: To investigate the hemorrhagic risk associated with radiofrequency ablation using ventro-oral (Vo) nucleus, ventral intermediate (Vim) nucleus, GPi, and pallidothalamic tract. METHODS: Radiofrequency ablations for movement disorders from 2012 to 2019 at our institution were retrospectively analyzed. Multivariate analyses were

Intracranial Hemorrhage in Children With Inherited Bleeding Disorders: A Single Center Study in China.

BACKGROUND: Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is a life-threatening condition in children. Inherited bleeding disorders (IBD) have high risk of ICH. AIM: This single center study aims to identify the incidence, risk factors, and neurological outcome of ICH in children who suffer from IBD. METHODS: From 2005 to 2017, 241 children with IBDs from Nanfang hospital, Department of Pediatrics, were evaluated. The ICH episodes were identified by medical history, general physical examination, detailed neurological examination, and computed tomographic or magnetic resonance imaging examination. The risk f

Endoscopic injection sclerotherapy for esophageal variceal hemorrhage in myeloproliferative disorder: case report.

A 70-year-old woman with myeloproliferative disorder and massive splenomegaly presented with hematemesis. Emergency endoscopy demonstrated bleeding from esophageal varices. Management of variceal hemorrhage by endoscopic injection sclerotherapy, using 5% ethanolamine oleate, was successful. Following the control of variceal bleeding, she was treated with hydroxyurea, a myelosuppressive agent. The spleen size markedly decreased and she was discharged 3 months later. Variceal hemorrhage in myeloproliferative disorder has been reported to be fatal on many occasions, despite different therapeutic

Progressive myelomalacia with spinal cord disorders along with severe intradural hemorrhage in a cat.

Progressive myelomalacia (PMM) is a severe neurological disorder. Although several case reports have been published, PMM is uncommon in cats. A 9-year-old neutered male domestic short-haired cat presented with hindlimb paraplegia. Based on the neurological examination, severe abnormalities in the L4-S3 segment were suspected. Based on magnetic resonance imaging findings, intervertebral disk herniation (IVDH) was suspected at the L5-L6 intervertebral disk. A hemilaminectomy and durotomy were performed. Four days after surgery, PMM was suspected, and the cat was euthanized. An autopsy was perfor

Multifaceted role of thrombin in subarachnoid hemorrhage: Focusing on cerebrospinal fluid circulation disorder.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a severe neurological condition characterized by high morbidity and mortality. The unfavorable prognosis of SAH is closely associated with early brain injury (EBI) and delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI), wherein thrombin plays a role as part of the secondary injury components following hemorrhage in these two pathological processes. Additionally, thrombin contributes to disruptions in the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), thereby giving rise to a spectrum of sequelae following SAH, including cerebral edema, hydrocephalus, cognitive impairments, and depress

Enhancement of Ca2+ Signal Strength in Astrocytes in the Lateral Septum Improves Cognitive Disorders in Mice After Hemorrhagic Shock and Resuscitation.

Hemorrhagic shock is a common clinical emergency that can aggravate cell injury after resuscitation. Astrocytes are crucial for the survival of neurons because they regulate the surrounding ionic microenvironment of neurons. Although hemorrhagic shock and resuscitation (HSR) injury can impair cognition, it remains unclear how this insult directly affects astrocytes. In this study, we established an HSR model by bleeding and re-transfusion in mice. The social interaction test and new object recognition test were applied to evaluate post-operative cognitive changes, and the results suggest that

Acute Hemorrhagic Manifestations in a Pregnant Patient With Type 1 von Willebrand Disease: Challenges in Management of Bleeding Disorders During Gestation.

This case reports a primigravida with Type 1 von Willebrand disease experiencing hematuria and gingival bleeding despite prophylaxis. Although pregnancy raises factor levels, her response was insufficient. Desmopressin successfully controlled mucosal hemorrhage, avoiding antifibrinolytics due to obstructive risk. Management requires multidisciplinary surveillance to tailor peripartum hemostatic interventions.

[Neuropsychological disorders after subarachnoid hemorrhage and surgery in anterior communicating artery brain aneurysms].

In the years 1982-1985 in the Dept. of Neurosurgery of the Jagiellonian University, 197 patients with anterior communicating artery aneurysms were operated on. Excluding multiple aneurysms (9), and taking into account early surgical losses (16), 172 patients were supposed to undergo late medical examinations. The patients were examined by means of questionnaires at least five years after surgery. 43 patients out of the 123 (71.5%) who handed in filled-in questionnaires, underwent psychological examination. Preliminary analysis of the late results of surgery indicates maintenance of the neurolo
