Pregnancy in a rudimentary horn of the uterus, a rare form of ectopic pregnancy, develops in women affected by developmental abnormalities of the growth and fusion of the Müllerian paramesonephric ducts. In the Polish population, this problem affects 4-8 women per year. The paper analyzes the problems that are associated with pregnancy developing in the rudimentary horn. Due to the continuous progress in medical sciences, maternal mortality has been almost completely eliminated in this form of ectopic pregnancy, while neonatal survival has risen to about 20%. A 20-year-old primigravida with 3 months amenorrhea presented with complaints of acute abdominal pain. Her vital systemic parameters were stable. On vaginal examination, the patient was provisionally diagnosed of right cornual ectopic pregnancy, which was confirmed sonographically, and taken up for surgery. There was moderate hemoperitoneum and rupture of right horn of uterus with products protruding. The rudimentary horn was excised. The patient was discharged and advised contraception and follow-up.

OBJECTIVES: To identify the effects of unicornuate uterus with rudimentary horn on reproductive function and analyze the diagnosis and treatment of the condition.
METHODS: The study was based in the gynecological unit of a city based Medical Center in Mainland China. Twenty-two cases of this anomaly were selected from a group of 130 cases of uterine abnormalities and were retrospectively analyzed.

The cases of pregnancy in the rudimentary horn are probably the rarest Mullerian anomalies. More often the pregnancy ends with an abortion in the first or the end of the second trimester. Extremely rarely (1% of the cases) end with a live birth. The authors examine and describe a case which successfully ended with a birth of a live fetus in 32 gestation week after a rupture of cornual pregnancy. Special attention is paid to the diagnostical difficulties, which are characteristic for these cases. A case of pregnancy reaching term in a rudimentary non-communicating horn of the uterus is presented. The pregnancy resulted in the delivery of a live child by cesarian section. The case is being reported for the rarity with which the foetus survives in this condition.
