This case report illustrates how a serious identity problem is crucial in dynamically understanding this rare sexual dysfunction. Ten retarded ejaculators treated by the author tend to be extremely compulsive and neurasthenic, with a failure to develop basic trust reflected in an obvious or concealed paranoid stance toward life. The relationship between self-reported psychosomatic stress symptoms and dimensions of family and farm functioning were examined in a sample of New York State dairy farm wives (N = 126). Most of the gouty patients are men. It is very rare that menstruating women suffer from gout. Within a research program 41 male gouty patients were explored with the psychoanalytic interview and with other methods. Human figure drawings were collected from 50 gender dysphoric adults and compared with the drawings of 84 adult evening-school students and college sophomores. The gender dysphoric males drew a person of the opposite sex first more often than the control group males (p less than 0.001). The gender dysphoric females drew a person of the opposite sex first more often than the control group females (p less than 0.05). Results are discussed in light of existing literature of the DAP and gender identity formation.

A sample of 11 male gender-dysphoric patients meeting DSM-III criteria for transsexualism was seen over a 3-year period by a military psychiatrist. Eight patients had extensive military experience, including combat duty in some cases.
