Cystic lymphangioma is an uncommon tumor of the small bowel. A case in the ileum in a 3 years old boy is described. The clinical picture was with 10 months of progression with constipation, abdominal pain associated with meals and finally an acute abdomen suggestive of appendicitis. A conservative surgical treatment with segmental intestinal resection and termino-terminal anastomosis was curative. The anatomopathological findings are described and a revision of the literature is done.

We report our experience with the directly to the urethra anastomosed continent ileal reservoir. Our results suggest that the S-Pouch is superior to the proceeding suggested by Kock both from clinical and urodynamic view. Continence is to be expected at an anastomosis of this pouch with the bladder neck, whereas at an anastomosis with the posterior urethra occasional cases of nightly incontinence were registered. This always happened when the neurovascular bundle had not been preserved intraoperatively. If an ileal reservoir is installed metabolic acidosis has to be carefully avoided.

A 65-year-old female with a history of cancer of the uterine body and a strong family history of cancer, was admitted with abdominal pain and anemia. During roentgenographic examination of the small intestine, a tumor was recognized about 25 cm from the ileocecal valve, leading us to suspect a carcinoma of the ileum. Duodenal and ileal calcium transport was studied by 45Ca uptake and estimation of unidirectional fluxes in vitro in kidney-intact and 5/6-nephrectomized rats. After normal-calcium diet, calcium transport was impaired by uremia in the duodenum but not in the ileum. However, 5/6-nephrectomized rats on low-calcium diet showed, in concert with impaired growth, a reduced calcium transport both in duodenum and ileum. The clinical and radiological features of idiopathic aneurysmal dilatation of the ileum in 3 adult patients are described. This uncommon lesion presents as an aperistaltic saccular segment in direct continuity with the normal ileal lumen. On barium examination of the small bowel, however, it may closely resemble and be mistaken for a Meckel's diverticulum. Previous reports about this entity manifesting in the pediatric age group are reviewed.

Replacement of ureter with a segment of ileum was successfully performed in two patients. One had ureteral cancer and the other recurrent calculi due to cystinuria. The first patient had only one kidney. In the second both ureters were replaced with ileum. Formation of a papilla at the distal end of the ileal segment in the bladder may reduce the risk of vesico-ileal reflux.

The ileum has been candidate more frequently for endoscopic biopsy compared to the past. Most of those biopsies show either completely normal tissue or non-specific changes. Nevertheless, in some diseases, ileal biopsy would be diagnostic, and in some cases, it may be the only anatomical involved location by the disease.
