A high precision and speed question answering system about the post-COVID-19.

Coping with the mutation of COVID-19 and potential future pandemic pathogens is crucial in the post-COVID-19 era. The internet's redundant data poses challenges for accurate and timely information retrieval, with current information retrieval systems often neglecting timeliness and speed. This paper proposes a Reader-Retriever architecture to design a question answering system with high accuracy and speed. We employ a distillation and fine-tuning process on a pre-trained model for the Reader pipeline, accomplished via joint training. Additionally, we propose a high-speed search algorithm IVF-P

Development and evaluation of prompts for a large language model to screen titles and abstracts in a living systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Living systematic reviews (LSRs) maintain an updated summary of evidence by incorporating newly published research. While they improve review currency, repeated screening and selection of new references make them labourious and difficult to maintain. Large language models (LLMs) show promise in assisting with screening and data extraction, but more work is needed to achieve the high accuracy required for evidence that informs clinical and policy decisions. OBJECTIVE: The study evaluated the effectiveness of an LLM (GPT-4o) in title and abstract screening compared with human review

DNA-DISK: Automated end-to-end data storage via enzymatic single-nucleotide DNA synthesis and sequencing on digital microfluidics.

In the age of information explosion, the exponential growth of digital data far exceeds the capacity of current mainstream storage media. DNA is emerging as a promising alternative due to its higher storage density, longer retention time, and lower power consumption. To date, commercially mature DNA synthesis and sequencing technologies allow for writing and reading of information on DNA with customization and convenience at the research level. However, under the disconnected and nonspecialized mode, DNA data storage encounters practical challenges, including susceptibility to errors, long sto

Examination of validity of identifying congenital heart disease from hospital discharge data without a gold standard: Using a data linkage approach.

BACKGROUND: Administrative health data has been used extensively to examine congenital heart disease (CHD). However, the accuracy and completeness of these data must be assessed. OBJECTIVES: To use data linkage of multiple administrative data sources to examine the validity of identifying CHD cases recorded in hospital discharge data. METHODS: We identified all liveborn infants born 2013-2017 in New South Wales, Australia with a CHD diagnosis up to age one, recorded in hospital discharge data. Using record linkage to multiple data sources, the diagnosis of CHD was compared with five referenc

Primary healthcare needs and service utilisation of people with disability: a data linkage protocol.

INTRODUCTION: General practitioners (GPs) play a crucial role in the early management and treatment of the comorbidities and complications experienced by people with disability. However, GPs experience multiple constraints, including limited time and disability-related expertise. Knowledge gaps around the health needs of people with disability as well as the frequency and extent of their engagement with GPs mean evidence to inform practice is limited. Using a linked dataset, this project aims to enhance the knowledge of the GP workforce by describing the health needs of people with disability.

A findings model for an ambulatory pediatric record: essential data, relational modeling, and vocabulary considerations.

Effective, computer-based representation of clinical observations requires balancing the advantages of structured, coded descriptions against those of free text narrative. An essential data set of relevant signs and symptoms was defined by a multidisciplinary group based on management goals published in a national guideline to meet the needs of clinicians in the Spina Bifida Clinic at Yale-New Haven Hospital. These core data elements are stored in a structured format. Additional material is stored as free text. A relational schema was devised that permits storage of both coded findings and nar

AD-GPT: large language models in Alzheimer's disease.

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) research produces extensive genomic and clinical data, yet general large language models (LLMs) often generate inaccurate or superficial outputs. We introduce AD-GPT, a domain-specific framework for reliable information retrieval and synthesis of AD-related knowledge. METHODS: We integrated curated genomic resources, including cis-eQTL and sQTL data across 13 brain regions from GTEx, genomic location information from NCBI, and gene function annotations from OMIM, together with approximately 150,000 AD-related publications from NCBI's PubMed. AD-GPT adopts

A Secure, Scalable Large Language Model-Based System (CIDER) for High-Throughput Clinical Data Extraction From Medical Reports: Retrospective Validation Study.

BACKGROUND: A substantial proportion of clinically relevant information remains locked in unstructured narrative documents, creating a bottleneck for clinical research, biobank annotation, registry development, and real-world evidence generation. While large language models (LLMs) enable advanced clinical text mining, adoption is constrained by concerns regarding data security, multilingual performance, and reproducibility. Manual data abstraction remains predominant for registry curation and retrospective research, despite being labor intensive, costly, and prone to variability. OBJECTIVE: W

The hunt for the last relevant paper: blending the best of humans and AI.

Background: The exponential growth of research literature makes it increasingly difficult to identify all relevant studies for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. While traditional search methods are labour-intensive, modern AI-aided approaches have the potential to act as a powerful 'super-assistant' during both the searching and screening phases. Objective: This paper evaluates how a combined, open-source approach - merging traditional and AI-aided search and screening methods - can help identify all relevant literature up to the 'last relevant paper' for a systematic review on post-traumat

Information extraction from medical case reports using OpenAI InstructGPT.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Researchers commonly use automated solutions such as Natural Language Processing (NLP) systems to extract clinical information from large volumes of unstructured data. However, clinical text's poor semantic structure and domain-specific vocabulary can make it challenging to develop a one-size-fits-all solution. Large Language Models (LLMs), such as OpenAI's Generative Pre-Trained Transformer 3 (GPT-3), offer a promising solution for capturing and standardizing unstructured clinical information. This study evaluated the performance of InstructGPT, a family of models de

MSU-Net: Multi-scale Sensitive U-Net based on pixel-edge-region level collaborative loss for nasopharyngeal MRI segmentation.

Radiotherapy is the traditional treatment of early nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Automatic accurate segmentation of risky lesions in the nasopharynx is crucial in radiotherapy. U-Net has been proved its effective medical image segmentation ability. However, the great difference in the structure and size of nasopharynx among different patients requires a network that pays more attention to multi-scale information. In this paper, we propose a multi-scale sensitive U-Net (MSU-Net) based on pixel-edge-region level collaborative loss (LCo-PER) for NPC segmentation task. A series of novel feature
